New here, have some Qs

Hi All. Went to a local dealer yesterday and put a deposit on an 07 2500 6.7 Found this site, signed up, and have already learned a bunch about the truck...it's my first diesel. I fell in love with my buddies 05' 5.9 which blows the doors off my dad's 6.0 Powerstroke

Been reading about some recalls and wondering if the dealership would have taken care of all them before I pickup the truck this coming week. Also anything I should know about before I sign the papers? Thanks in advance.

any recall's and program updates are supposed to be completed prior to delivery. other than that just keep reading the threads and learning new things to do to your truck.

Tell them you want an ENGINE BLOCK HEATER CORD. They should throw in for nothing. Or you will have to go buy one later on if you ever plug in your truck once it gets cold.

The block heater is standard. The cord is a $10 option if ordered with the truck or $40(ish) if purchased after delivery from the dealer. Some others here have purchased the cord from Cummins for less, but AFAIK the Cummins cord is not an exact fit lengthwise.

i agree with most here. the heater cord is NOT standard. make them give it it to you in the deal if it's not included. also as stated above, ask the dealer for copies of the work (flashes, recalls etc.) they have completed. third, get them to enable the high idle feature before you take delivery. same thing, have them to do it free of charge. i was actually quoted $50 from one dealer, and an unreal $135 from another to do this. i wound up driving a little further to the dealer i puchased it from, and they did it for nothing. takes them literally 5 minutes!

Thanks you guys. I was just at the dealer today to sign everything. I'll make sure to get a power cord for the block heater and a list of the updates. They looked at me like I had two heads when I mentioned the high idle thing, but said the service guy would do whatever was necessary. I want to make sure it is done when I pickup the truck on Thursday. How does it work? I know it has something to do with the cruise control button.

Mine said it had block heater under standard so I thought it included the cord. But I read a window sticker on a different vehicle and it had the cord listed with a cost of $10 next to it. Mine did not say this and I had the truck for a couple of months and went to plug it in and there was no cord. So I go back to the dealership and tell them I need one. Not knowing how easy it was to install, I had them do it when the changed my oil. They charged me $150 total for the cord and labor to install it. The oil change was free, so the whole charge for the cord and installation. My dad bought a truck the following February (from a different dealer) and I told him to get one before he bought it. His salesman gives it to him for nothing and I (then knowing how to plug it in, thanks to this site) put it in for him. I told him he owed $150 and he just laughed at me.

It wasn't standard on the 5.9s...........I had an 06 and didn't have the cord either, and it wasn't listed as an option so I knew it didn't have it when I bought it...........since this 6.7 didn't have it listed as an option I figured it didn't have one either , so I asked the salesman to throw it in with the deal, and he said it was already on it standard.......that is why it isn't listed as an option on the sticker........I said great........show it to me........and I'll be damned, there it was.

The block heater itself is on all 6.7's, but its capped and has no cord. The block heater $10 factory ordered option gets you the cord. I ended up paying $26.35 from my dealer for the cord.

Can the high idle option be enabled on all trucks or is this something that's no longer able to be done on the newer 08's...or can't be done on the Aisin auto equipped trucks? We're having a problem finding how to enable it on my truck.

Some dealers just install them in all the trucks if they are in a cold climate area. If you live where the temps dont get below freezing there is no need to have the cord.

all trucks. the auto is just plug in the star scan and enable the high idle feature. the manual transmission (which i have) takes a little more work to get the high idle going, but is still very easy.
as far as the heater, mine did not have the cord either. it is very easy to install though. the cord is not standard, the heater is is. if your truck had a cord and no $10 charge for it on the sticker, then the dealer put it on and didn't charge for it.
