New guy from Louisiana with questions.....

Hi everyone. Been lurking for a while. Now some questions!

My truck is a 2008 Quad Cab 4x4. I bought it used last week with 42k miles and it runs fine now.

How can I tell if it has had the J35 software update???
I'm considering performing the stealth deletes & smarty, but can't shell out the $$$ right now.

Should I bring my truck to a dealer to have the update done?

Lastly.... I've read about lots of ppl just unplugging the egr and running with a cel light on. Is this a bad idea? Or would it help protect me against dreaded soot? (until I can get a smarty and delete kit)

The dealer should be able to run the VIN and tell if the J35 was done since it was a recall. I was not that impressed when I had my truck done and the turbo went 3k miles later. I dont think it was related but gave me a better excuse to delete. The rig is a different kind of animal now.

Dude!

Welcome!

What town? Kaplanite here.

The EGR unplug will not do you much harm.

Work your budget, just delete it and go, no emissions testing in our part of the world. Youll be much happier. If you need any help and Im at home, Id be more than willing to drive over and give ya a hand.

Thanks Blake!

I live in Welsh so we're practically neighbors!

With 42k on the truck I'm sure there's already plenty of soot in the system. If I unplug the egr will the existing soot eventually burn off and prevent turbo issues?

Thanks again for advice!
Donald

It will keep much of it from being recirculated back into the intake. I suggest regular runs with the exhaust break and tow haul to work the slider nozzle on the turbo to keep it from gunking up.

I was in Welsh for the 4th of July. I went to pick up a trailer that was given to me by Bobby Miller who owns Point to Point Drilling. Have some family in the area and know a few others guys in the area.

If you need anything let me know. Im up in Texas right now, but when Im home I can give you a hand with whatever you need.

You can also check on Dodge's website and enter the last 8 of your VIN and it will list any recalls not performed.

Thanks all!
Today I found a sticker on underside of the hood from 4-4-09 that said something about an update performed..... Can't remember exactly what it was, but gave me the impression that it was a reflash.

A flash update should have a two letter code with the update release on it... such as "AX" or "AY" or "AZ"
