New 6.7 flash
So does anyone no what the hell this new flash actually does???
i was hoping it helps with the regen/fuel economy. this 10 mpg crap is going to be the end of me. my motor is getting louder it now has the classic slow knock/tick at idle that no one has ever been able to explain.
anyway it drives great but i just want it to be reliable/get decent (15ish?)mpg. is that to much to ask???

mine has 5200 miles and gets 15.5 at 55mph and at 60 14.8 on the highway.
hand calculated.
at 70 it gets 14.2 highway...
10ish does not sound good..
is that hand calculated???
Mine gets 9.5 hand calc. at 70mph with 13000lbs towing on the bumper...
hope this helps...

well after babying it the last two days with some highway miles about 125 @ mostly 65-70 i have reached an all time high of 11 mpg average up from the 10 i was getting. overhead says up to 13 now and let me tell you it was sooooo hard to get it to that!!
should i shut up and be happy now??? i am checking my oil after every time i drive it and it is slowly creeping up the stick. i did the oil change at 978 miles as i did not like my oil being so diluted with fuel (almost to top of the plastic part of the dip stick) i had them AND I WATCHED!! fill it with 3 gallons of dello cj4 that i brought with me and after less than 25 miles was half way between the full mark and the top of the plastic (sat all night)
well at least my DPF has not clogged again so its all good right??
and i will say this again the new CEO of Chrysler is the same guy that screwed home depot really bad (Robert Nardelli) so dont hope for much in the future.
HE WALKED AWAY WITH OVER 210 MILLION!!
read up my friends.
good times!!

I dont think i would say you should be happy now. I would still be letting your dealer know of your poor mileage and the fact that your oil level keeps rising. I am getting an indicated 16.5 mpg, 20 out of the 45miles (just filled up) were in stop and go traffic and i only have 600 and something miles on the truck. I reset it on the highway the other day just to see what it would do and the overhead had me averaging around 20.7mpg, now i know some ppl's are very optimistic so ill say i was getting around 18mpg just to be fair since this tank will be the first ill be able to hand calculate to compare.
If you are showing 16.5 on the overhead you are realistically getting 15 at best and i wish i could get that. you can not reset to often and expect it to be an accurate figure. it kind of becomes an instant mpg reading for a time after you do it. it takes a little while (at least a tank full)to average out what you are getting over time.
maybe i will reset mine next time I'm on the highway just for fun. I'm sure it will be pretty good until i get back on the streets.
I don't drive my truck that much i just turned over 1100 miles yesterday. Its a dam good thing i have a T-flow tank or i could not go more than 350ish on a tank full. it would be like driving most cars and having to fill up all the time.
it is nice to have the digital fuel readout in the truck though as i can get a rough idea of where I'm at without filling up with miles traveled and gallons left.

The last time I made a run without the trailer, I got a hand calculated 16.7mpg. I usually get between 9.5 & 11mpg pulling my trailer depending on the load. My truck is a Cab & Chassis with the Aisin transmission and weighs 9800 lbs. I do drive the speed limit, don't get in to big a hurry to get there and have had no emission problems. I believe that is a pickup truck model problem, not the cab and chassis. My truck is well broken in, right at 70,000 miles.
i have talked to quite a few ppl that have their overheads pretty accurate from the get go. I will be hoping that mine is accurate, but i doubt it. Since the first night i had the truck, i did not reset it for the first tankfull. After probably 50/50 highway and stop-n-go i was averaging about 17mpg on the over head. I believe from talking to the ppl whos overheads were off, that it will only be off by 2mpg at the most. So for only having around 300 miles on the truck at the time. I will have to say that 15mpg and 50/50 driving is pretty good. I wont complain considering my dads denali only gets 13.4mpg and my truck is much bigger and has tons more power.
I wont reset it til i feel up again, and i will hand calculate it to get a better idea. But one thing about hand calculating it, its almost impossible for that to be 100% accurate. You could be parked on a hill to where the left side of the truck is lower then the right side and that would create a good sized air bubble where no diesel would go. THeres just a lot of things that could make it off by just a little or by a bit.
metalarm, what does your overhead show and what are you getting hand calc'd. I just think its so odd how some ppl are getting very good mileage and others are getting absolutely horrible mileage.

I have not been able to find anything about the new flash just yet, but I do know what the tick and/or knock at idle is, its the fuel injectors knocking from the lack of the sulfur that was in the fuel... Get you some of the gray bottled PowerService and splash some in the fuel on say a half a tank, it will quiten them right down soon as you get that or other additive of like kind in the fuel...
Bad thing is with the DPF and the exhaust system at present, its not going to like the fuel additive so much. Mine never did and I was getting the same if not worse fuel mileage as you, and I run mine five days a week @ 400-500 miles a day...
The very reason I have removed my DPF and components from my exhaust system so as to splash a little of the fuel additive so as not to hammer the heck out of the fuel injectors.
At any rate dude, you might splash some additive to the fuel and just make sure since its without much of the sulfur to add enough to help lube the fuel up and see if it doesn't quiten yours done as it did mine... I just know that was what the noise was on mine and that the fuel additive fixed that issue...

well i talked to my service adviser and he said the new flash is to adjust the regen process a little. it should make it go into regen more than the trucks did before the flashes came out but less than as he calls it the perpetual regen that the first flashes induced.
he drove a truck with the new flash about 180 miles over the weekend and said it performed very well. he also said i could expect a mileage increase of at least 1-2 mpg in town.
maybe not the 4-5 i was hoping for but i will take what i can get at this point. he did say they are still working on the issues and there would be more flashes on the way.
i am going in tomorrow morning and will let you all know how it goes...chris

I posted in the 6.7 mileage thread also. i got the new flash the EGTs are lower across the board so that is a good sign. the truck runs the same other than that.
I will have to let you all know how the MPGs are when i get a few miles on her. i will hand calc along with the overhead.
as i talked about in the other post many people who chime in on the great MPGs ( people who claim they average 17-18 or more) they are getting are doing i believe one of a few things. 1. hitting reset all the time. 2. only driving on the highway and giving only those results. 3. only going by the overhead. 4. they drive only down hill. or they just drink to much like Brett

I'm sure i will catch some crap for those thoughts but they are only my opinions though I'm sure some of you will agree

i will say i think that some of the ppl with the mileage claims are doing that, but i think there are some that are getting an honest 18mpg! There are many factors that go into MPG, weight, tires, aeordynamics, gearing, swb/lwb (extra weight) weight in fuel, definitely right foot! For instance, my father in law had a 05 6.0 ferd, he couldnt average anymore than 12.4mpg in that thing. When i drove it i could easily average 15mpg. Just far different driving...
Can anyone come up with something to take to the dealer or a number. Just more than telling them I read it on the internet. I called my service advisor and he didn't know, said he would ask one of the diesel techs.
