In The Market for a 6.7
In The Market for a 6.7
Hey guys im fairly new to the site and looking forward to becoming a cummins owner soon. I have made my mistakes by owning two 2002 7.3 powerstrokes and A Duramax LLY i do like the duramax but need more room.
Will removing the DPF void warranty
What kind of MPG do you guys get
Any new motor problems have you guys had with your trucks
Are you over all satisfied withe the 6.7
Please give me as much info as possible and post a pic of your truck
I also have my Dmax and my Altima for sale in the classifeds
Thanks

I like the 6.7 so far. I think the delete will affect your warrenty. about 16 mpg is what I get with no engine mods. About once a week running with the EB on and in Tow/Haul and in 4th or 5th gear
to clean out the soot is the only drawback I have with the truck.

In all honesty I couldn't recommend this truck. It's been very troublesome and the aftermarket hasn't quite got it figured out yet. Dodge doesn't even have it figured out yet although they keep trying new computer flashes and they are making it better. The biggest problem right now is the variable geometry turbo. Soot gets in behind the mechanism and prevents it from moving back and forth like it's supposed to. Mine has been replaced once. Dodge's "solution" is to add a port into the turbo housing where they can inject a cleaner to remove the soot. Many people report they still have problems after the turbo has been cleaned. Some claim the real fix is to remove the EGR components so the turbo doesn't see as much soot. Kills the warranty though.
I thought the DPF was a servicable component, meaning that it can be cleaned rather than replaced. 13 days without my truck and I would be cleaning it myself or having the DPF go MIA.
DPF is not serviceable on a Ram, I understand that they are on class 8 trucks.
dealer plans to replace all sensors and switches on entire system.
The fact that Chrysler did not courier parts from a dealer with stock , suggest to me that they'd rather save money on parts distribution than keep a customer happy. The Ram 5500 that was planned to replace our 3 ton International , just became a Hino.

if you weren't satisfied with 2 7.3 powerstroke's, then you'll probably not care for any of the newer trucks! i think the dmax has the fewest problems right now out of the box. i love my 6.7, but that is after a number of mods (yes voiding warranty) and some dissatisfaction in the beginning. as i've stated on here before, if i had it to do all over again, i'd buy this truck and drive it straight home, and do the full complement of deletes (turbo back exhaust, egr, egr cooler, cai, edge/attitude) the day i brought it home! you'll be super happy if you do that. if you don't you'll be like the majority, and be super happy at first, then you'll start to see the codes (emissions related), and dealer visits, and realize that neither chrysler or the dealer has a fix. just know going in the truck is far from perfect in stock form. after my deletes, it's been the best and strongest running truck i've owned.

Mine was trouble free for 7000 miles. The last 3000 miles have given me one CEL after another and last week I didn't think I would make it to work the truck started running so bad as the CAT was all clogged up. I ordered my delete kits and can't wait until they get here. These new trucks are just awesome but I can't stand driving each day knowing that another emission caused CEL will be coming soon. That is the only problem I have had with this truck. The 6-speed auto is the perfect trans and is the reason I got this truck.
If I have any issues in the future then I may have to put the DPF and EGR back on the truck before getting it to the dealership but I believe it will be worth the hassle and I probably won't have to worry about it anyways......

the 100hp "chip" he is talking about isn't really a chip at all. it is the MP-8 and, aside from a DPF delete, is reportedly the best thing you can do for mileage on these 6.7L trucks. i am in the 20s mpg-wise without an MP-8 though so i haven't invested in one.
ok,now I wish that everyone would understand the way Cummins designed the new 6.7L and emissions system. This motor and emission system is designed to be worked up hill and run the EB all the way down. YOU GUYS NEED TO USE YOUR TRUCK LIKE IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE!!!. I have worked my truck hard everyday since day 1 and I have not had a single problem. With 80,000km on my 5000 and 40,000k on my 4500. Don't believe me, read the latest TDR where they interview Cummins engineers.
Unfortunately, very few people have the ability to use their truck in that manner. My truck spends roughly 50% of it's time hooked to a trailer and pulling heavy. The other 50% of the time i use it for daily driving as I cannot afford a second vehicle just for bobtail back and forth. I NEED this truck; a gas-powered pickup won't do what i need it to do when it is being worked. If Chrysler seriously expects the entire consumer market to buy this "you have to drive it like a semi 100% of the time" then they need to throw in a second vehicle for daily use with every 6.7L CTD-powered truck purchase. I'll take a 2009 Challenger SRT-8 with a 6-speed manual. In silver please.
At any rate, it is all a moot point for me now. I have since had all my emissions equipment stolen from the vehicle (darn emissions thieves) and haven't had a problem one since. The truck runs 10x better, gets a solid 4-5mpg better, has a much smoother power delivery (with the programmers turned off, they are there for speedo calibration and code clearing/gauges only), and i haven't seen the p2262 in over 5000 miles (when before i saw it 200 miles after getting it "fixed" at the dealership). If you aren't having any problems out of your emissions equipment, great. But don't presume to tell people that they aren't driving their vehicles "right." If your idea of "right" is the same as Chryslers then you are living in the same little fantasy world where everyone has 15 different vehicles, one for each of their varying needs.
