Jumping ship?

Has anyone with issues thought about jumping ship from dodge to chevy or ford?

Why jump ship? they have the same issues if not worse, the only bright light is you can fool the egr on the ford, but then try to get work done at the dealer. I'll stay put and take my chances, cummins is one of the motors besides cat. Anyway good luck if you deside to take the plunge.

Not being a naysayer but a question. I bought my 5.9 07 to avoid the first year of the 6.7 and probable problems. Not sure how bad or how many but keep hearing about failed turbos and clogged DPF's and when either of these problems rear it's head dealership and time are the outcome. Have heard of the Ford problems but, which is my next question-----What about the GM's. I do not believe that I have heard of any negatives on the new DPF equiped GM's. I will stick with Dodge as almost every thing I have read is that the Dodge is still the best towing truck out there. Fords with their Ranch king have the interior to die for and GM if you want to drag race is the current powerhouse. I know that there are exceptions to the above but in general all the magazines have the same results for these trucks and I am wondering about the GM and how they are keeping all so quiet?

About the only bad things I have heard of on the GM's is earlier models overheating and poor front suspensions. Otherwise no problems with DPF or injectors after their prior problems.

Im not saying im gonna jump, i have likes and dislikes with both ford and chevy and i really like my truck a lot.but i just cant be going to the dealer every week to get something fixed as ive been doing. im getting fustrated...................

I've been waiting for a real crew cab with a 8ft bed from Dodge with a 26,000lbs Combined towing capacity. I guess its not going to happen until 2010 and that came from Sterling. The other alternative is to stretch a mega cab, but it will still be rated around 23000 combined.

I love the F-450 for its towing capacity, hate the 6.4 with the twin trouble makers on the same shaft and the fact they have to take the entire body off it to service the motor. If I had the money I think the F450 with a bored out
5.9 with about 375hp and who knows how much torque, would be the truck.

Otherwise I going to be looking at a Class 4 truck, not a late model chevy, gmc, or ford. Dodge still can't get one accross the border, all though I have heard some are on the way, still without a long bed and crew cab.

So, I guess I'm still looking.

Yeah ... point out the problems threads on the other sites people are having. I haven't seen too many over THERE ... especially the GM folks. Or is it that the other sites ban any negative comments about their trucks.

You are correct. The GM guys have nary a problem, it's almost surprising. Go over to thedieselplace.com and you would be surprised at how few of problems they've had.

I'm shocked at the problems the 6.7's are having to be honest with you

I'm a regular reader over at the place, and I've seen/heard of very few problems. GM powertrain seems to excell at emission controls and mileage in both diesel and gas platforms. However the duramax is not as easy to work on and I don't believe it has the reliablity of the Cummins. With the new auto AND choice of a manual box, I will be looking hard at the Dodge for my next truck. My '03 has had the injectors replaced once at about 30,000 miles, and to tell you the truth I'm always a little nervous about hooking the trailer up for a long vacation. There have been a number of people that have lost engines because of injectors, and most everyone has paid out of pockect. New/rebuilt engines installed, go for 15,000-20! Close to the value of my 2wd truck!

I don't think I would be nearly as bothered by a problamatic DPF. I always liked the low end torque of the Cummins, and I know I'd love the exhaust brake!

I have never been brand loyal.

In 2003, I moved from Ford to Dodge. The high cost of these trucks demand that they be reliable, durable and totally dependable. When they're not, I won't hesitate to move to Dodge or Ford. "Styling" and "0 to 60 Times" are irrelevant to me.

Reliability will decide my 09' order.

One of the big issues for me is the foot emergency brake. The absence of a hand brake makes it much more difficult to stop and start on hills, and I hate it. Foot operated emergency brakes make no sense with a manual transmission, especially if you are off road. With a hand brake, you can easily modulate the emergency brakes. With the foot brake, it is either on or off, and you can't apply it with the clutch depressed, unless you have three feet.

Stupid, stupid, stupid design.

We have three 6.7L in the family. Only issues so far is several ghost CELs and one regen. Two has less than 4k and the other has 15k miles.

On the dieselplace forum there is a lot of chatter with the DPF on the Duramax too. Apparently the Dmax is having issues with it too.

i went and drove a 08 crew cab chevy/ally 4x4 and was in love with it. integrated brake controller, remote start, quiet smooth ride, and lots of power! however, it stickered for like 49k and the most they would come down to was 42k. my truck only has 27k miles on it and is an 06 so i couldnt justify the expense.

i am still undecided about where i want to go in 2 years...chevy or stay with the dodge!

ford is out of the question

If you are living at your dealership on a weekly basis, I would be having a LONG talk with the management about this AND be uttering LEMON LAW at them. They just might be more motivated into finally fixing your truck, sometimes that IS all it takes to let them know you have had enough.

I had been brand loyal to Ford for over 35 years. Their engine problems ARE what made me move to Dodge and I am glad I did, LOVE my truck, it has been virtually trouble free, heavy hauls are pure pleasure with the Cummins. I bought the 2006 a couple years ahead of my purchase planning BECAUSE I did not want the emissions stuff. I am glad I did, you guys are certainly having your share of issues regarding the emissions. As far as the rest of the quality concerns of manufacturing, Dodge does seem to be slipping somewhat in getting everything properly done the first time around. My first truck was a GM, I had nothing but headaches, will never look their way again, that's what took me to Ford. They DO have the nicest interiors, creature comforts galore, but too many bugs with their engines. My next truck will be a cab up in size, probably a Ford with a Cummins or the Freightliner. That will be a while from now, but it is certainly already on my mind.

Im planning on jumping ship. Not to a ford or chevy though. I just want to get rid of this truck and never speak of the 6.7 again. I want to go back to a second gen 12 or 24 valve. I hope cummins/dodge people read these forums, and read about their "wonderful" products.
