I just bought a new Fleetguard the other day from the Cummins dealer in Vegas. It fit just fine but was about 1/3 of the thickness of the original filter and also had a thin lay of foam prefilter on it. I'm driving 260 miles tomorrow so I'll see how the mileage is. I also just got the AX flash.

Well , you guys intrigue me. So I picked up a new Fram(ughh) for a 07 5.9 from Newfie Speed and Sport , and threw it in to see(cheap test material). Its -30 around here these days so I haven't seen maybe 1 MPG difference, so far. Only drove 80Km though, at 110KPH. Overhead shows 1 mpg gain so far.

As soon as someone :
  • Replaces their dirty OEM 6.7L filter with a New OEM 6.7L filter
  • Then, after two tanks of fuel, replaces the "new" 6.7L filter with a 5.9L filter
  • Records & documents everything with both filters and four tanks

..........then I'll maybe "bite".

Greg

Done it! I'm running 1500 miles a week so running through a "few" tanks is no big deal

Maybe if I put a 12v filter in my 04.5 I could increase my mileage by 25%?

Why stop there , try a VW golf diesel filter, should be good for 120% gain!

come on , I know someone here can "one up" me on this one! Today on the way in to work, overhead read 15.7 l/ 100 KM. Normally at 18.2 l/100KM. I havent hand calc'ed this though. as ambient temps are -13 today , not sure how this fits into the equation. Idling/ warm up time greatly effects this avg. as I've seen. Less warm up/ less creep on the overhead display. I'll let you know how it avgs throughout the week.

Are you sure your from Kentucky? , You sound like you spent some time in Missouri! If your skeptical , a $30.00 filter is what it will cost you ,and you can test any way you like. I don't know if I believe it either but I'll try anything that gets me some safe gain in MPG. I would have tried the dreaded K&N if they had it in stock, but unfortunately, no dice.

Those paper Fleetguards with the foam stuck to them returned horrible MPGs and high EGTs for me. I bought a couple from Geno's and wished I could've sent them back. The Napa Gold (Wix) performed much better before I got the S&B intake.

Exactly what I was thinking, I always see a 1.5-2.5 mpg jump when I replace/clean an air filter, then the mpg gain vanishes after a tank or two as the thing loads up with dirt. Replacing the fuel filter can have a similar effect.

My mileage hasn't gone down any since I installed the 1000CFM prototype PowerCore MegaBHAF from Donaldson a couple years ago.

All I have to do is "clean" it periodically by flipping it over, rapping it on the concrete a few times, and shaking the dirt out.

This unit filters BETTER than a BHAF (Powercore nanofiber media) and flows about double

I still think i can do better...

You are about at the top of the filtering food chain there. The Cummins Filtration OptiAir 1300 flows 1171 cfm @ 12 in H2O and their AH19080 flows 1106 @ 10 That is out of their brochure pg 5-31 and 5-75

good to know...

Good to know about the Fleetguards...oh, and I saw no increase in mileage, in fact, it was down about 1 mpg from what I normally see on that route. Perhaps a wix is in order. Very few people actually make a "6.7" air filter...I've only been able to find a Fram, (in the catalog, not in the store), the Fleetguard, and the dodge from the dealer.

When I checked Wix online, it showed the part number in italics and said it was to be announced and was not available currently. This was just this past week.

Does Cummins/Fleetguard make the OEM air filter? I know they build the OEM oil and fuel filters.
