I think you should be alright putting the EGR back together without reinstalling the butterfly. It just serves to block the flow of fresh air when the EGR is pumping exhaust gas back into the intake. The posts should still move once you put the EGR back together but the fresh air will always be mixing with the exhaust gas. Who knows, that may be the best of both worlds right there. Code free, functioning EGR but being constantly diluted by fresh air through the intake. Give it a shot, i don't see how there could be any adverse effects in making the attempt.

Thanks. I thought about that but I'm not planning on plugging the EGR back in though. I was just planning on taking out all the blockoff plates and putting the butterfly back in since that is how it was when the truck still had the max power and got great mileage too...
It does seem like a good idea to leave the plate out. I'll try it on a weekend soon. I have to hook up to the trailer the next couple weekends and I don't want to start experimenting until I have fulfilled my obligations with that...

Thumbs up

Dodgezilla i did a power brake with my truck to day. All i can say is wow this thing has some lowend. Now much truck does not have anti spin dif so i do not know if that made a diffrence. But my truck felt like it started spining the rear tire around 1400-1500 rpm and as soon as it hit 1600 rpm it was off like a rocket.I bet i could of hit the revlimiter if i wanted to. also this ways all with less that half throttle and not letting of the brake untill i hit around 1800 rpm. My truck is bone stock with just the egr unpluged.butterfly still in and no egr block off plates. I hope you understood some of this rambling. Thanks Mopar65

Thanks. That's good info there. Mine should be turning the tires over too. (Not that I need to be doing that)

Maybe my truck is just trying to keep me out of trouble.....

Not sure of the RPM's, but I did it one time and the RPM's were pretty low when I let off the brake. I thought I might have left some small black marks in the street, as I couldn't really tell the tires were spinning. To my amazement, when I went back to look there were 10 yards of 2 black lines.

Gypsyman, mileage is still great. 16-17mpg with no highway miles. That in itself makes me want to just leave it alone. I'm not racing and when I hook up the trailer I can pull it with ease so I really should just forget my little powerbrake test. It's just so hard for a Motorhead to live with knowing that there is more power under the hood if I just make a couple minor modifications.......

Well? any luck? Would be nice to see what your pressure was doing when this happens. (not blood pressure.). I take it there were no codes since you didnt say. Any chance the sensor plug/pins may have been damage from swaping in/out, not making good contact?

Just because you changed your fuel filter yesterday doesn't mean it doesn't have some crap in it from Akmed's crappy gas station.

I know of one station close by me that has twist-on filters on the large diesel pumps. I know for a fact they have never been changed in the almost 4 years I have lived here. No telling how many 1000's of gallons have been pumped through that filter.

I have definitely felt a loss of power ever since doing the delete kits. The truck runs exactly the same now as it did with the old fuel filter. I have ruled that out as a cause.

Ever since doing the deletes my truck has gotten a "CAT FULL SVC REQ" message once a week. I am able to clear codes and the message goes away for another week but I wonder if this message, which is serious if you still have the stock exhaust intact, derates the engine somehow and needs to be reset at the dealership???? I swear it feels like I am at 3/4 power now. I remember being amazed at how quickly I could get up to speed when I pulled out into 55mph traffic when the truck was new. It still is pretty quick but that "WOW" feeling is just not there anymore....

If I don't let my PMT (or the Edge before that) clear the codes at startup, I get the "Cat Full" message on my OHC immediately. I've driven the truck around a bit when it was started like that and I felt no loss in power so I'm not certain it is related.

Have you tried contacting H&S? There could be some problem with one or more of your foolers. Aside from that, putting the EGR back in place with it just unplugged is about the only other thing I can think of that might help you solve this. It really is a strange phenomenon you are describing, completely different from my own experience with basically the same setup (though i clear the codes every time).

Which leads me to another thought; there has been plenty of speculation that some peoples trucks like to run better when the EGR unplugged code is NOT cleared. Maybe your truck is the opposite, maybe it prefers to have the codes cleared at startup? You might want to try clearing the codes every startup for the next week or so and see if you feel a difference. If so, might be time to look into an Edge Juice or PMT (for the code clearing ability only, of course...lol).

The thing is that I clear the codes once a week. At least for that first startup after clearing the codes the truck would run better if that were the issue. What I normally do is get to work, since it always happens on the way to work, clear the codes, and then turn the key to off and then restart it. Maybe next time I will clear the codes and then start the truck without turning the key off and see if that will do something for me. I have never done it that way. The more I think about this now the more I think you may be on to something since all the guys w/ the PMTs and Edges are getting the codes cleared without turning the keys to off......
I agree that is is very strange how identical trucks can have such different issues after doing the deletes...

You're right in thinking you don't have to turn the truck off after clearing the codes. Once they are cleared, you can unplug your scanner and fire it up. That should keep the CEL from coming back on and may help with your seatofthepants power loss. Then again, it may do absolutely nothing for you one way or the other. Without being able to replicate the situation on my own truck I really couldn't give any kind of worthwhile advice, only toss out ideas.

Thanks. It was a good idea but it did not change anything. The CEL came right back on after clearing the codes too. I guess I'll just live with it or if I get a wild hair up my.... I'll pull the blocker plates out of the EGR.
