How many miles before I go to Amsoil in the 6.7 ?

I did a search and did not find this.... Two questions -

When are most guys doing the FIRST oil change ?

How many miles should be on the engine for a good break in before I switch to Amsoil?

Thanks !

I always thought there was a "break in" period on new motors too. The manual states the 6.7 is already broken in. Also the mechanics at the dealers state that too.

I still did an oil change at 600 miles. Now at 1500 and will change at 3,000.

If your not towing or hauling heavy most of the time then I would wait for 15,000 miles before you go to synthetic oil to give the rings time to seat.

Dealership told me not to, under any circumstances go past 5k before the 1st oil change. Are they selling service?

Differant clearances and metalurgy. If a late model 'Vete or Porsche Boxter that COMES from the factory with synthetic thats a differant story.Every time I've seen that question asked on a Cummins site or called in and asked its always been said to wait until 15 or 20k.So I did.

For your two questions, you will received 2,000,??? answers. Here's mine....
change the factory oil early, within 2 / 4k, switch to synthetic after the second oil change ( 10/12k ). Add a Bypass at the third oil change.

Good quality dino oil, ( Rotella, Dello etc ),...before you switch to synthetic.
I have to go with whatever the dealer has since my 2 first oil change are free.
After that, bye bye...

99% of all the post I read people only worry about the miles on the oil and one thing many forget too also look at is how many months has the oil been sitting in the engine when you buy it! I’ve seen factory oil up to 9 months old and with as few as 30 miles on it, so do you think that 9-month-old oil should be run in a new engine for up to 7,500 miles? I sure as heck wouldn’t run 4-month-old oil more then 1,500 miles let alone the 4-7500 miles many run their factory oil for.
