Houston Idle UP

Just wondering if anyone knows any dealers in the Houston area who know how to activate the idle up feature on my 08 3500 (auto). I called the dealer I bought it from and they say its not possible and that to not void my warranty I couldnt let the truck Idle for longer than 5 min (gives you real confidence in that mechanic). I called another dealer near me, and they said the idle up feature was not available, then after discussing it with the mechanic said it was for certain models but they had only tried to activate it for one customer and "it didn't take". Got some real A+ dealerships down here, anyone who can help I appeciate it.

It is not that tough tell them to call star. They will walk the rookies through the procedure,it will not affect the warranty,it is there to run pto accessories at the proper rpm.

Yeah, that must be the part that voids the warranty.....
Dealers (not ALL of course) are funny like that, they live in their own little world where the customer is a dummy and they know all there is to know about the product.

Thanks

Thanks guys I will try Helfman Dodge, Im real tired of the dealer I bought the truck from, between them telling me I could idle for no longer than 5 min or I void the warranty (are you freaking joking?), or that it takes three hrs and will cost me two hundred dollars once they "fix" the "machine" that does it. Takes 5 seconds. No charge to do this. Slap your dealer hard.

Thanks

Texas City is much closer to where I live, however I called Helfman Dodge today and spoke to Tim in the service deparment. He told me to drop by anytime and they would be happy to enable it for me. Just goes to show you how different every dealer is. If Helfman Dodge turns out to be half as helpful as Tim makes them out, I think they might have just gotten a new customer. Its pretty upsetting when I know more about the engine Idle time and enabling and disabling features on the truck than my dealer does. Thanks for all the tips guys, its nice to know that some of the dealers in my area take good care of their customers. Thanks again.

I have also spoken with Tim. He told me that the front diff fluid in these trucks from the factory is synthetic and you really dont need to change it at the 15k mark like the rear axle. He could have easily charged me another $100 bucks to do the front. I ended up doing it myself, though. I am going to get my tranny serviced there soon. I heard they are completeing upgrading their shop to support the new 4500/5500 Dodge and Sterling.

A+ Customer Service

Okay guys I went by Helfman Dodge today, and Tim the service Manager personally took care of me. Tim got into my truck with me, and while activating my high idle broke down all of the things I could do to help keep the truck running more smoothly....aka keep that filter unclogged. First thing he said was drive with the exhaust brake always on, second thing he mentioned was that in order to regen you truck has to be going 45 or above for longer than 30min, He said if you stop, or slow down it resets. He showed me his computer read out and my 08 with 700 miles on it had already regen twice, and the real jaw dropper was that it had attempted to regen 15 times already. He also said that though Dodge doesnt say it, he believes the air filter that comes stock is a major restrictor on air flow and is a big part of filter clogging, he told me to get a high flow drop in asap. Tim drove my truck into the repair area and checked to see if I needed any updates....and surprise surprise my 08 needed a flash update. While it downloaded and updated he told me that he would give me his card and a card to his diesel service rep, and that if I had any technical questions, I could call him or the rep. He told me he WANTED me to call him at least once a month and ask if I needed any new flashes or not, Now here is the kicker, after spending a little over 45min with me activating my high idle and giving me tips on what voids my warranty and etc, he handed me my keys and said have a nice day.....No charge. Tim sold me, he was informative (he knows his stuff), polite, and really wanted me to understand...that is what I call service.
