Hmmm, Am I smelling my first Regen???

Got to work this morning and smelled something strange all around the truck. I could smell it coming out of the exhaust pipe but it was stronger under the hood. Smelled like a hot CAT on a new vehicle only stronger. Am I correct?

Mine will do this too especially if it is wet out. I just assumed it was a regen

I smelled the same thing several times when my truck was brand new. At first I thought something was wrong, but I believe it is just the regeneration cycle.

Thanks men. It's running great so I'm not worried about it. I'm sure that's what it is. It probably has to get super hot to burn that crap out of it and super hot metal doesn't smell all that great.....

Ya its the regen, it will stop makin the smell....or maybe i just got used to it. But it will always click and pop from the heat while its in regen. After installing a pyro i was surprised. It will cruise down the road at 1200-1250 with no load and idol at lights at 800 I romped on it for a few seconds and hit 1400! crazy stuff

My pyro reads very similar to that. The highest I have hit is 1300 F!! I believe that temperatures of 1300-1400 are used in metal production/fabrication!

650 F is the temp at the cat conv/particulate trap at regen. If you are towing anytime the temp at the converter gets to 650 F it will burn it out. So the more heavy pulling the less amount of times it will regen.
