BamBam,
The smell could be normal if it is coming from the valve cover vent tube. I'll get it every now and then depending on how the wind blows. How many miles on your truck? Check the air-cleaner. If it is dirty, it will cause the mpg to drop.

Hope this helps,

The Boss hog
Re:Smelling Fuel???
??? If you reset the MPH it will start high and drop to the real MPG over time. Also be advised that the odor could be the crankcase breather. I did hear that someone had a fuel leak at #5 injector line, but had fuel leaking all over the block and trans. If you have no visable fuel I would think that it`s the breather ;D

Re:Smelling Fuel???
I only have 1000 miles and am getting about 17MPG and that is by hand calculation I dont trust the computer. Boy I sure hope that improves...its a 6 speed so I think it should do better. This is a distinct diesel fuel smell...I think I will take it to the dealer on Sat to see what they say.

BamBam,
Give the truck some time to break in. I have heard that these Cummins can take up to 20,000 miles before they max out on there fuel economy. Also, I don't know if they use winter blend fuel in your area but that lowers your MPG also.

Re:Smelling Fuel???
Thanks for that advise...the wife is beating me up over the fuel mileage. After I made all those statements about the awesome mileage I would be getting if only she would let me trade in the F-350 PS for this...well...it ain't happening yet. And she is still fuming…did I mention she wanted a auto too. :-X :-X :-X :-[ :-[

What RPM`s are you running the motor at while driving it.
If you drive it like a race truck and spin it much past 2200 RPM it will only get 17 or less. I run about 2000 to 2200
on the freeway and shift at 1800 to 2000 and I`m getting 18.4 at 3200 miles. ;D

Re:Smelling Fuel???
I try to keep it below 2000 RPM but at 70 its running 2200 RPM ...so that cuts into the milage a bit I am sure..I will try to keep it below 2000 and see what happens.

BamBam,
What is it with clearance lights and women ??? My wife hates the clearance lights too, says it looks like we are (would be) hauling produce for Safeway.

Re:Smelling Fuel???
Took it to the 5***** dealer on Friday they tightened the #6 injector line...but I still smell something. Someone on this site said something about the crank case vent mod. Any ideas on that would be good. Had the dealer also check the rear end and it was OK. Also checked a knock about 1500-1800 RPM..said they all do that...anyone else have that? ???
