Has anyone MUFFLER DELETED on 6.7???
Has anyone MUFFLER DELETED on 6.7???
I have an appointment Thur. to go and have a new exhaust tip (stainless magnaflow) installed on my truck for looks.
I was wondering if anyone has muffler deleted their 6.7, or installed a aftermarket straight thru muffler, and if it made any difference in sound over stock???
Thanks for any help... I will be leaving the EMISSIONS dpf filters alone but by taking off the factory muffler I understand that I will no longer have a noise warranty....
Thanks for any help,
John

all the incidents I've read about removing the muffler have indicated that it's essentially pointless... minimal change, if any, in the exhaust note and I think some have even said the stock muffler is a straight thru design anyhow...
I appreciate the input... I am just going to put on the tip...
I was not really looking for so much performance just would like to change the tone of the truck....
Thanks again....

there is a very slight increase in tone and very minimal performance increase if any. I have it done on my 6.7 myself. look at it this way if you do it now it's just something less you'll have to do when they figure out all the emissions stuff.
You already have a 4" exhaust and it sounds to me like all of the exhaust restrictions (NoX filter, DPF, CAT) are all upstream of the muffler anyways, so removing the muffler buys you little or nothing. Makes you wonder why they even bothered putting on a muffler, other than they always did it that way.
On all of my previous trucks I was always one of the first to replace the complete exhaust, air intake, CAC and add chips or programming. Personally, I don't plan on changing any part of my stock 6.7, including the exhaust, until at least a year or two has gone by. I want to see how these motors/emissions system/warranty hold up after people start chipping them before I touch anything on mine.
There are some pretty knowledgable people on this forum that appear to have access to inside info either from Chrysler or Cummins. They say the 6.7 will not be very tolerant of some of the upgrades that we did routinely to our other trucks. That could be a bunch of hooey or could be partially correct. This time, I'm gonna wait and let others do the R&D and destructive testing first!

Love them, IMO it makes the truck. Got the setup from American Force Wheels. They do take their toll on the gearing, but don't get me wrong the truck still has no problem getting out of it's own way. To counter for the diameter of the tires you would need to install 4.30's and that would put it back to like if you had stock tires and rims with 3.73s. I'm not sure what i'm gonna do yet because at 2000rpm the trucks speed is roughly 87-90mph and i do alot of cruising unloaded on the turnpike. Gonna wait till i get a programmer and see how it is with the extra power. Got a feeling it will be fine...
