Going through the firewall

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes....

I have a 6.7 with auto and I want to add air lifts. To do this, I have to run control wires and air lines through the firewall. I wanted to run it through the wire loom boot, but there isn't room . But, about 6 inches to the right (towards the truck center) of the firewall there is a 1" diameter hole covered in the engine bay with a plastic plate. It is held in place by two very large nuts and bolts, so my assumption is this is for an accessory or option I don't have.

This would make an excellent place to run the cables. But, before I drill through this, anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't? I have no idea why this plate is there in the first place....

Thanks for your insights.

John

Clutch master cylinder would normally mount there. Do what you want with it! lol
