Red face Fuel System Question

I got a pretty stupid question about my fuel filter. How often are you supposed to drain the housing with the yellow lever and are you supposed to leave it open until it stops flowing? I changed my filter a few days ago, and I flipped the lever and I got about 6oz out that didn't quite look/smell like diesel, maybe my nose is a bit stuffed up. But she does run noticeably smoother now! I think I'll change at 7500 instead of 10k. Also, can anyone that lives in the So Cal area help me install my fuel tank vent mod? I can't get my big hands on top of the tank to disconnect the wires.

I change mine every 5,000 ( Both of them actually). I have the stock filter and a GDP 2 micron set up.. By the way, I am in So Cal near Hemet. Have never done the vent mod..

I don't think you need the vent mod in the newer trucks. Mine fills up really quickly and I no longer have to stand there for 15 minutes like I did with the 03. Even the 07 was not that bad..

On mine I can slowly put in about 4 more gallons before it's topped, and it takes awhile to do it.
