The G56 boot fix

Hello DTR,

Doing an oil change this afternoon I noticed that my tranny seemed to be weeping. Uh oh.... Thats where that Gorrilla Juice smell was coming from.

Did a lil investigating, it seems to be coming from the top of the tranny, some digging and I found what seems to be a common issue.

Crap!

Called up the dealer, 108 bucks for that sucker. Not gonna happen.

Some DTR searching and I found a fix that others were using and figured Id put it to use and detail it out here for in case someone else needs the help.

Ran over to O'Reillys, got a Doorman universal CV Joint boot, part number 614-001.

Trimmed the lower section off and gave it a nice snug fit to the top of the shift tower.

A couple of stainless hose clamps later, and its good as new.

Thanks for this Blake. I'll be picking one up for "just in case" purposes.

Had the boot go on my 5.9 2007 3500 apprx in 2009. Dealer found that the boot was ripped. Punched my vin in their computer and it came back that I had to buy the entire shifter. The boot was not available by itself. I protested to no avail. About $500.00 for the part plus labour. About 6 months later I mentioned this to a parts guy at another dealer. He said, all you need to do is use the vin for a 08 and you get the boot for $100.00. Went back to original dealer and they basically said...too bad so sad. I wrote to Chrysler and did get about $200.00 back. I've often wondered if they corrected their computer.

I did the same fix as Blake and it's holding. I heard the updated part from Dodge is stouter. I ordered one through a friend with an account here and got a good price. The new part is indeed stouter and should last real well.

The G56 boot fix

Just did mine on my 2014. In my case I had the update boot but it was leaking as well as the shift tower, rnr the shift tower gasket and a new boot later no more leak. Was almost a pint low on fluid to now the dam thing shifts again an doesn't have the chunky shifting.
