Fuel Filter Housing change per dealer.

Dealer says that the next time I come in for service I will have to pay $200 to change my fuel filter housing. The last time I serviced it they said I would have to do it, but they do not have the new filters that go with it and that they were going to use up the filters that they have. Then when Dodge runs out they will switch to the new filter and I have to buy the housing. Does this make sense? They said that If I want to maintain my warrenty, I need to buy the housing. I'm in CA if that matters.

Some time ago Cummins redesigned the filter and housing. Cummins is providing a better micron rating over the older filter, they went from 7 to 5 micron. In doing so they change the screw on housing and have now made the filter element serviceable with out replacing the housing.
So yes you do have to change the housing and element. You do not have to buy from your dealer you can buy this new filter and element from a Cummins engine dealer or from some other reseller. I purchased my filter and housing from Geno's Garage. I bought the Fleet Guard filter and element these are cheaper than the Mopar parts. Another thing is Fleetguard makes the Mopar parts and Chrysler needs to turn a profit, so they sell them at a higher retailer price.

The Fleetguard Fuel Filter and shell (new design), part number FS43257 is $49.95 each. The 5 micron element is part number FS43258 is $36.95. These are Geno's Garage latest prices. The link is http://www.genosgarage.com/

The element was 42 tx pd no shipping and they are now stocking the elements for me.

x2, this is where I got mine. I bought a kit that came with oil filters and extra fuel filters. Great deal for a bit over $100 IIRC.
