Front axel u joint help
Can anyone give me an outline of how to replace my front axel u-joint on a 2005 2500 4x4?
More to the point, what do I need to remove to get the axel out. Is there a retaining clip in the diff?

i can help! i just finished rebuilding my entire front end. To remove the axels just apply slight pressure between the outer yoke and axel tube (might take a little bit but they will slide out) also TRY not to damage the axel seal). There are NO C-clips to retain them. If you have any more questions let me know.~jj

I just did mine and they slid right out.
I decided to clean the axle tubes before re-installing and used a shop vac. Be careful if you do this. Instantly the vac was loaded up with gear lube
.
I was trying to be careful with the seals as J.Judge said too. But how do you be careful? They are way in there and there is no apparant way to guide the axle in to protect them. Well, mine is not leaking so I guess I was careful enough.
Good luck. Oh, by the way, my joints were definately ready to be replaced. All black in the cups and stiff. Somebody needs to get slapped around at Dodge for not putting greaseable ones in.
