Excessive Soot Flash
Anyone had this done?? Part of the process is for the tech to drive the truck for 45 minutes after the flash. I'm debating the issue - black soot all over my quarter panel & bumper or having someone with no financial responsibility to my truck out joy-riding, who knows how, in my $50k workhorse that only has about 14k miles left on the 100k mile Cummins warranty.
If you've had this flash/process done was there any difference in power or fuel mileage??

I've never heard of an "excessive soot" flash. What version is your PCM on currently? They had the AU flash in the early Summer to address the PDF filling up prematurely by initiating more regens earlier. That may be what you are referring to. There is also a more recent flash intended to improve transmission shifting that is referred to as the AZ flash.
Did you have the G30 recall done on your truck? They replace the O2 sensor control module and update your PCM to the latest flash. Whether you are in warranty or not you should get the latest flash done. The recall should still apply whether your warranty is intact or not.

So, does AZ take care of the excessive soot?? I had the O2 sensor replaced & the flash. Is there a newer flash now??
I did see the TSB where is states that after completing the software upgrade the tech has to drive the truck @ highway speeds for up to 45 minutes. That's the scarey part for me, unless they would let me ride with them.

I had this flash done(excessive soot) I had no codes or performance issues. I picked up my truck and drove it for 45 miles not the tech. I have all the updated flashes. If i remember it was in June or early July when this was done.
