Engine miss on occasion
Engine miss on occasion
Three times now I have had an issue where my truck starts to idle really crappy like it is missing on one of the cylinders. The first two times it happened I had been driving for around 30 minutes and came to a stop and then it started. Both times it cleared up as soon as I started driving. This morning I started it up and it immediately was idling like this. I revved it a few times and it also sounded like a bit of timing knock. I finally shut it down and restarted it and it ran fine. Anybody have anything similar happen? I should add that the first times it did this the truck was totally stock. Now I have a Rokktech sensor and an AFE drop in replacement air filter.
sounds like you could have a leaking injector. I would take a fuel sample before the fuel filter, and, if you have the tools, take a sample after the injectors. That was you can see what is coming out of your tank and what is flowing through your injectors. It sounds like you may have contamination. Not at all uncommon
But better yet, take it to your dealer and let them do it. Chances are you are still under warranty

My 04.5 is doing this I have just replaced the injectors with a set of DonM's fluxes, and it continues to due this. I have a railpressure gauge and on occasion the railpressure is all over the place. I'm also getting a p193 cel coming on. I am leaning toward the railpressure sensor being bad? I don't know. I certainly promise that I am scared to take it to the dealer for what that's going to cost as I am out of warranty. Oh, I also have a new cp3 pump so I don't think that is it. Keep us informed as to your findings,I for 1 am very curious.
I just had something similar happen. I was coming home tonight and it was spitting and sputtering for a second then cleared up. I couldnt get it to duplicate it again. My wife drives it so when I got home I asked her if anything like that has happened and she said no. It only has 2600miles on it. It has no codes, will it do any good to take it back into the dealer?

If the dealer can't duplicate it, and it threw no codes, then it's probably just a waste of time unless they have seen the problem before. It does not appear to be too widespread of a problem so I will just keep driving mine until it starts and won't stop.
Mine has not done it again since my initial post...

Now that's all what the sign said but knowing this guy there is a good chance that he had farm diesel in it and they found it and even though it will not hurt the fuel system (maybe the DPF) and the fact that its illegal, they may have just used it as a reason to void it. Not many people would go to court and say that they voided my warranty for breaking federal law. I don't mean to go off topic but what it amounted to was that they said he had bad fuel that got past (THERE FILTER AND WIF) with no lights at all and that it was still his fault. I have heard that before not just with this guy. The truck has been there for 3-4 months.
So what I am saying is you may not want to take it to the dealer unless there is a real prob. I know there not all like that but you never know. The same dealer tried to say that my brother in law had a "chip" ( even thought they don't make a "chip" for any of the more modern diesels) and that's why his electronic shift t-case quit working. This dealer is looking for any reason they can not to fix you truck under warranty. So even with the price of #2 I drove 1 1/2 hours past them to buy my truck and will do the same to have it worked on.
Hop you get it all figured out.
Make sure you drain the FF housing at least ever 2 weeks. Talked to my diesel tech (been with the same dealer since 94' when they start and a CTD moddin mad man) and he said before the water in fuel light comes on the engine will actually run rough before that happens. So now I drain it twice a month. Mine has not done this yet but was bit of advise when I bought it.
