Emmission controls on/off option?

Hey guys been thinking about getting the 6.7l but i was wondering if i took the emissions stuff off of it and did the programming and everything could i potentially put it back on later down the road? the reason why i ask is because i live in commifornia and diesel trucks are going to be required to pass smog and all the other BS. In addition if all the junk can go back on and what not will the dealer know that it had been taken off at some point

If you go with a Smarty and minimal deletes, EGR Deleted in place, DPF pipe only, no cooler delete etc, then it can easily be returned to stock.

However, the programmer is not invisible to the dealer, and a tech with a sharp eye will be able to tell that hardware has been removed/replaced.

The 6.7 got a bad rap, but its still a Cummins. Get rid of that emissions junk and its just a bigger version of the 5.9 CR.

I'm the same boat. I can return to stock pretty easily and if someone traces and tracks a programmer, I'll play stupid and tell them I bought it used and it is obviously stock and I have no idea what they are talking about. Maybe that will work in such a worse case? So far, haven't needed any warantee yet.

Especially if you're not living in the best communist state in the union.

The bad rap was with all the emissions trouble. Guys that didnt pull it off, or could not or would not do the deletes. Many of em had their trucks stay in the shop for days on end, and go back and forth to the shop repeatedly for clogged DPF's and malfunctioning turbos, all a direct cause of the bluetec system.

I have yet to see one guy have any trouble with the 6.7 once the deletes are done.

My truck was manufactured after March of '09. My question is can you do the EGR and DPF deletes and not use a programmer?

You can, but will have a CEL. The kits that do not use a programmer need some type of fooler box or exhaust temp sims for it not to go into limp mode. I do not know of any kit on the market that will let you run the EGR and cooler deletes sans programmer and not have issues.

You will see then best gains in performance and milage when coupling the deletes with a programmer. The Smarty and the H&S boxes are both good. As you can tell I'm a Smarty fan.

Shouldn't scare too many with the OEM emissions equipment. The recent flashes and upgrades to the systems since 07.5 have made them much more reliable. The trucks with the most problems were the initial release 07.5 to 0.8 year.

The biggest draw for me to do it was mileage and the soot suction system (EGR) contaminating my engine. Also watching EGT's well into the 1400°F mark made me cringe.

Sorry LD should have clarified on that. I was referring to the earlier 6.7's. Chrysler did quite of bit of work on the ECM side and has got the newest versions of the software reliable.

If your gonna keep it stock and not delete then just make sure your flashes are up to date and you should be fine.

Remember for every one guy you hear of having trouble with a bone stock truck there are probably fifty more that have no trouble what so ever.

I guess I will leave it stock for now if it will cause problems doing the deletes and not having a programmer.I have no problems with my truck and I'm perfectly happy with the power. It pulls my 37' FW just fine. I'm not really interested in adding a tuner/programmer - just concerned about the soot issue and would like to do something about that.
