Edge Vs Smarty

Come Monday I will order either the Smarty S67ME or the Edge Race juice with attitude. Both seem to do what I want (allow code free egr / dpf delete) but do it differently.

Smarty is clean with simple install (just re-flash ECM) and do deletes. Smarty will leave tracks in ECM dealer will find (if that is an issue).

Edge leaves ECM alone but needs lots of wiring, egt probe installed in ex. manifold, guage / diplay mounted on dash. Dealer will not see tracks in ECM but it would be pretty hard to uninstall everything to go see dealer.

I am not out for a bunch of added power, just want to eliminate all the time in shop (warranty is still in effect but loss of truck while in shop is killing my livelyhood). Also need to be able to idle truck longer than 10 minutes for air or heat.

If I am missing something please let me know, other wise just hoping to hear what has worked for others.

Thanks, Shane

Truck is '07, 6.7, manual trans , no mods yet.

I love the smarty personally in my opinion there is nothing better......, but the whole warranty issue might be the only problem for you. You shouldnt have to worry about going to the dealer you should have faith in these 6.7s lol.. Ive never had a check engine light and it runs awsome. just my 2 pennies this post is going to be pretty bias on these 2 products.

Wrong forum and you need gauges first.

Not sure about the Race Juice, but Ive got the EJA. Im gonna be getting a Smarty soon. My Edge has the factory timing option. Edge/Smarty stack coming up!

If I had to choose just one, Id go Smarty and a good set of gauges.

With the nox and dpf filters in place its any extended idling periods are not recommended, could cause trouble with filter clogging and such.

With the deletes, no worries, have seen mine idle for 20+ hours with not a lick of trouble

NOX- Nitrous Oxide (Filter)

DPF - Diesel Particulate Filter

Both part of the Power robbing, Fuel Economy smashing, piles of steaming you know what that is the Bluetec emmisions system.

I would hope if you were idling at 20+ hours, it was on high idle... All of the Cummins engines since 89 would not like idle for that length of time. Liner wash down, oil contamination, valve deposits, injector fouling.. Those are the cheaper problems...

Let me clarify on that...

Situation on which I mentioned would not be 20 straight hours of idling. I apologize and should not have worded it that way. It would have been more so, drive to work, which is a remote right of way, leave truck idling for several hours while working and in and out of truck, move truck down right of way, and repeat.... sometimes for 18-20 hrs a day, sometimes more.

Running engine that long due to sleeping in truck and using it as an office. It was particularly cold at the time and company was providing the fuel.

The high idle option was the activated before I left the lot with the truck bought new.

Blake,
Same problem on my end, working as right of way agent means lots of hours in truck (my office). Often too hot or cold to sit w/o running engine.

Just got truck back from dealer. Again the egr cooler was plugged. They have a new design that they will install when part comes in. This new design is not supposed to plug as easy.

I asked about latest flash improving ability to allow more idle time, service writer said nothing had changed, dont allow long idle time.

Unless I am wrong neither edge nor smarty are feasible as something dealer wont notice. Smarty = electronic footprints, edge = lots of wires and harware that would be hard remove for a dealer visit.

Not out to cheat dealer, I can just see me removing dpf and disabling egr being the beginning, middle and end of any warranty conversations. (You tossed a rod? Yep. Must have been the missing dpf). Hell, it stores codes because I changed out stock radio for one that has handsfree phone function.

Sorry if posted in wrong forum.

Shane

Does the new extended idle feature in the latest flash help this? Its supposed to cycle the rpms up to keep soot down.

I can understand your scenerios completely. In the winter I use the Espar but in summer I see your point totally.

I think the latest flash does address idling issues, but the blanket answer is still, no idling.

Shaneus,

Land agent ehh... Pipeline or Utilities?
