What kind of mileage should I expect to get if I bought an 08 3500 6 spd with 3.73's and 4x4. Stickers for 45k and they are selling for 35k. About 10k off. I am driving a 2005 6.0 and have had about all I can take. It is puking again. It is about time to start camping again and I need reliability. I am sure answers will be biased, but honest input would be appreciated.

Which six speed ? The auto and manual are BOTH six speeds in 2008.

 

Since no one has replied to you, I can give you an idea based on my truck which is pretty similar except for my 4:10 gears. With 110k miles on the clock, I average 15.5 m.p.g. empty @ 75 cruise controlled m.p.h. If I could keep it down to around 65-68 m.p.h. the mileage would jump to about 16.5 to 17.0 m.p.g. Towing just about anything, again at my usual cruise controlled speed of 75 m.p.h., no wind, I can get around 11-11.5 m.p.g. Again, if I could keep it down around 65 m.p.h. the mileage would increase about 1 m.p.g. These numbers are hand calced and verified with the digital fuel monitoring system that came with the aux. fuel tank NOT the overhead. You didn't say if your new truck is a 6spd man or auto. I have the 6spd auto.

funny. i went from an '05 6.0 cc, 3:73, 6 speed,lb, fx4, which got about 15-16 mixed mileage. i bought the same truck you are talking about. 07.5 megacab, dually,4x4, 3:73, g56. love it so much more than the 6.0. as for mpg's, i get 12-14 in town, and 17-18 highway. so, not a lot different than my psd. but better than the new 6.4 guys are reporting.

 

Is the power stock much better?

definetly better than the 6.0. very noticeable! the dually handles much better than my srw 6.0 too. i am in NO way brand loyal. i have said before, that i buy what i feel will serve me best at the time. i don't give a rats a$$ who's name is on it. with that said, i can honestly say that i haven't missed my '05 one time since i got the 6.7! the only 2 complaints i can even come up with (aside from emmissions bs that is mandatory) are that the stock cupholders are a really bad design (remedied with the smoothie cup holder from Geno's Garage). and second, is that the megacab is not available with a long bed. good luck. let me know if you have any other questions and what you decide to do.

 

My truck only has 7500 miles on it but the best I have seen is 15.6 on the overhead and 14.3 hand calculated never driving over 70 mph and mostly highway driving. I had an 05 QC and an 06 MegaCab and they got a little better mileage but not enough of a difference to care about.

 

That's is about spot on what I get out of my 5.9/4.10 combo. I sometimes begin to wonder about these MPG statements some folks make about the 5.9's.

 

Most of the 5.9 guys get around 75PMG pulling 80,000lbs and 150MPG highway right?. I have been in a 03, 05, and 07 all 5.9 6spd manual 4door 4X4 for over 200K total and none got more than a few MPG better than mine around 15-16 empty but none of them got as good as mine towing the exact same trailer ( not just one like it I mean the same work trailer) about 11MPG with mine and a 6spd auto and 3.73. All hand cal on all 4 trucks. We average over 1000 miles a week so we find out now they do pretty quick. with mine I run 1800rpm at 70 MPH it will do 80mph at 2000rpm. I realy like a double over drive.

 

Auto mt I get 14.5mpg in happy hour traffic Phx AZ. On hiway during weekend light traffic @70mph 18.2 all overhead calcs.
Hauling water tanks to ranch in NM over moutains and such carrying about 1600 lbs in box 16mpg @ 65 mph.
Truck has 7000 miles.

 

i'm seeing about 16 to 18mpg hand calculated, the overhead sometimes shows 23!!! i wish. mine is all town driving empty, the highest i go is 60+. towing about 9k i got about 12mpg. i like my dodge much much better than my 2k 7.3L and i dont care about brands either, i wasn't happy with the ford, my buddy talked me into the dodge and i like it.

 

My truck is what you are looking at getting and sorry to say but 12-13 if I can stay under 70 and about 11.5 at 80. If I am pulling 10-20k I get about 9-10 mpg. I have 27,000 miles and it has been the same ever since I got it new. I hate to be one of the nay sayers but after driving my inlaws 05 2500 4x4 6spd on an 800 mile trip and I drove 400 miles and got 20.2 mpg at 75-80 mph. I am fairily happy with the rest of the truck except wishing I could have gotten a megacab longbed. Good luck to you anyway.

 

I have a 2005 3500 5.9 QC short bed with 6 speed manual. I consistently get 22 to 23 mpg at about 60 mph. This drops to 17 to 18 at around 70 mph. I have no reason to fudge these numbers. I drive like grandpa, though.
