Drove a 08 6.7 and 08 GMC Dmax today

1st I took out the new Dodge 2500 4x4 Laramie with the new auto and it had allot more pep than I thought it would have (for a stock truck) the 6 speed transmission was very nice and I was pretty impressed, boy that exhaust brake is sweet. The GMC rode too much like a soft Cadillac, the Dmax Allison combo is a nice setup but in my opinion I would sacrifice the ride just to keep the Cummins under the hood, plus the Dodge still feels like a truck just like it should. Tomorrow morning I am taking the new Power stroke out to see how it stacks up. If you all have any specific questions between the three just let me know. Mike

I had a 7.3, and talked to alot of guys with them on a couple Ford diesel forums.. I only sold mine because it was just too big for my needs (crew cab long bed dually). That is a tough engine to kill, I'll go out on a limb and say reliability wise it could hang with a 12 valve! Funny how I would browse through the 6.0 section and it was mostly problems and complaints!

I can save you some time if you would like. I already test drove the loaded models of all three myself to put together a comparo. The Dodge was my all around favorite truck. Like you said, the new 6-speed feels great...i like it MUCH better than my 48RE...it was the most plain inside, which is fine with me...I mean, it's a truck. I also like yourself was in love with the stock exhaust brake...works pretty darn good. The Duramax had the quickest acceleration, but if the Dodge was 1000lbs lighter like the DMAX, I think that they would be VERY close in that department. Allison is also a good tranny. The Chevy had slightly better interior features than the Dodge and rode a little better. The Ford now...Geez oh MAN, how I love that King Ranch interior and features! By FAR the best of the three as far as body, suspension, frame and interior engineering goes...but boy it was a DOG off the line. By FAR the weakest of the three and most inferior tranny of the three to boot...if that sucker had a Cummins and a 68RFE in it, I would LOVE to get my hands on one!

Who ever comes out with a truck with a Ford body, Cummins engine, and a Allison tranny, will have the market cornered.

its no suprise most will like the cummins, but i want a chevy. why jar your kidneys if you can drive a truck thats as smooth as a caddy and still tow the same amount of weight? i could do w/o the exhaust brake if i could justify spending the money on another truck when mine is still practically new

I think you'll have to get the F-650 in order to get a Ford body, Cummins motor, and Allison transmission... of course, at that point most opt for the Cat diesel....

I'm gonna be hunting for an '06 5.9 in a couple months to replace my '00 7.3, and it won't be just for the engine either. Dodge makes just a good/nice of a truck as the rest. I personally think Chevys and the new Fords are bogus. Just my two cents!!

Another thing to ponder......are you planning on keeping the DPF in tact or do you plan on ditching it?

The reason why I'm asking is Chevy/GMC w/the DMax already has three tuners (EFI Live, PPE, HP Tuners) that will allow you to straight pipe the truck. The tuners also kill the regen cycle.

Dodge and ferd have yet to come up with a viable alternative to bypassing the DPF and killing the regen cycle.

Just my two cents here, but I wouldn't worry with the ferd. For Christ sakes, ferd is going to have another engine supplier in 2010

For some reason everyone thinks Ford just dumped the 7.3 in favor of the 6.0. They didn't. They 7.3 wasn't able to comply with the newer emissions standards of back then.

One thing to remember is that ford and dodge made a totally new new engine. The duramax is the same engine with the emmissions equipment added on that will be changing buy 2010 because they are not 2010 emmission compliant. But I would still take my dodge any day over the others, but it would be nice to say I have twins.
