I went ahead and did the EGR delete the correct way just in case the butterfly was somehow closing during driving. It was open when I pulled the intercooler hose off the intake and I even had the truck running.
I'll report back with any info good or bad....

Update.....
I pulled the butterfly and also unhooked the batteries to clear anything out of the system. I also have waited for the 5 dings to be done before I turn the key all the way to start. I have not had any issues at all since doing this on Sunday morning. I even started the truck up Sunday morning before doing all this and it was running fine. Heck, it may have already fixed itself beforehand. I will continue to wait to start until that prestart diagnostic has finished since that is what I believe may have been the fix.
For anyone on the fence about doing these deletes all I can say is that most of us are hesitant to do this but once you get it done and the bugs are worked out you get a real piece of mind knowing that you no longer have to worry about your exhaust clogging up if you don't drive your truck hard enough. That itself is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard for a vehicle being sold to the public. I mean, come on! It's not like we bought a factory Hemi Dart and tried using it as a commuter car...

Glad to hear things are back on track. Give it a week to make sure you aren't puffing raw fuel any more and I think you are good to go. Cool!

Just another update...

Truck is still running great and I have not had one issue again with the rough idle and white smoke.
What I AM getting is a lot of exhaust smell in the cab. When I first put the DPF delete on the truck I noticed that my V-Clamp holding the DP to the turbo was not tightening around the flange as much as before. The ends were close to touching with the stock DP on but now I have about 3/8"+ of a gap between the ends. Well, apparently lots of guys have had this issue and had to take a dremel tool or similar and grind a bit out of the inside of the DP so it would slide all the way up flush against the flange on the turbo elbow. I will now have to pull the DP down and try to do this with it on the truck or if that doesn't work I will have to pull it all the way out of the truck to do it. The instructions tell you to make sure everything is together properly before tightening any of the clamps up but they don't mention this issue.... Anyways, it's not a big deal, just a nuisance. I'm still glad I did it everytime I look at the mileage meter.....

Sounds like they are using a 5.9 dp instead of a properly flanged 6.7 dp.

I never took the Rokktech off. I just backed it off when I noticed the timing rattle after unhooking the EGR. I noticed less power also so I turned it back up to full advance. My power came back on the bottom end but I swear it still feels like I lost a bit of power on the top end. It may just be me though....

Could be Richard. The angles look right for the 6.7 but it just won't slip up on the elbow far enough. They also don't put the bar on the side that sticks into the mount on the bellhousing.....

Now for the next mod is to plug the PCV pipe at the intake and allow the breather to draft. No more worries of putting oil vapors into the intake system.

Correct there. I heard there were three hoses back there under the plastic cover but I'm not sure which is the correct one. Are guys just running the hose down so it drips on the ground like the earlier trucks were?
Good to see you back MikeyB. Hope you made it through the storm OK. I saw it heading for Tomball and I felt for you. That thing was huge!!!...

That is correct. There is one line running next to the turbo and attaches to the intake in front of the turbo.

Thanks, we did ok. Only lost one tree and no damage to the house. Yesterday evening power was restored to our neighborhood. Still no phones or cable though.

Maybe I'll take care of that when I'm done with the DP...

Thanks

Let me make something a bit clearer about my statement that I feel less power. What I am experiencing is a lot more lugging of the engine while I'm driving to and from work in normal Drive. The truck still makes the same power and maybe it's just because I got so used to driving in manual 4th and 5th gears to keep a good load on the engine. Driving like that gives better throttle response. I drive through a pretty hilly/curvy area to and from work and I often have to slow coming up a hill as there is a curve at the crest. This is where I see the lugging and either have to give it more throttle or manually downshift.
Anyways, I was "Enjoying" the truck this morning and I absolutely have the same power as before, I just have to learn how to drive it again now that it breathes properly. My OH is sitting at 17mpg right now and I have not been on the highway other than about 7 or 8 miles of my 60 mile commute each day. Stop and go traffic still takes a big toll on the mileage regardless....

I am right with you on this one. I have to manually put it in 5th or 4th when not on the highway or it lugs horribly. But it performs great when I keep it in the right gear. I think they programed it to lug because they give it more EGR at lower RPMs and it makes less emissions. This is just a guess though. So I just got used to working with the paddle and keeping it between 15-1800- rpm. Runs like crazy.
