One day asprin is bad for you and the next day it is good for you. When the research fund runs out lets tell them we are wrong so we can get a new grant, **** Money Making Grants

I could dispel this notion quite easily, but I detect that you are the kind of person for whom facts to the contrary won't change your mind.

All New Diesel Engines Have Dps On Them

All diesel manufactures are under the same epa issues. All new diesels have dps and other egr items. One of the biggest ones hit is the trucking industry. you can look at any new 2008 class 8 truck and the exhaust stack is clean, no more black pipes. I am a technician for Freightliner and we are all feeling the hit, but it is amazing that the class 8 trucks have not lost much for fuel mileage less than 0.5mpg in most cases and the stack pipes stay clean. The dpf does a great job on trapping soot and turning to ash which they say will need to be cleaned about every 300,000 miles but have not heard anything on having to replace or clean the dpfs on the smaller trucks. still a little curious on how the manufactures are going to handle dpfs that are full of ash, sooner or later the ash will have to be removed. it is almost like a camp fire, start with large amounts of wood and in the end you are left with a small pile of ash that is not burnable and needs to be removed. I think i will keep my 04 untill more comes out of the woodwork on the 2010 emissions that are suppose to be more strict. just have to wait and see.

The extra .8L of displacement is not "sucking fuel." Fuel delivery in a diesel engine has nothing to do with displacement.

The extra displacement actually reduces emissions a good bit by lowering power density.
Actually, I am. You blasted me before about cummins SCR systems. If you want two engines to have relativly the same stoich characteristics any change in displacement size will have a change in fuel consumption. The way you make it sound a 15L and 6L will have the same fuel consumption at the same load which is wrong.

JIM Wilson It is not the 06 or any year it is what people have done to them to make them smoke. If they are blowing black that is fuel that is being over feed to the eng.It is getting in there pocket.

the diesel eng does not put out as much as a gas one does. YES the government tell us to clean up!! But how much are they putting in the air every time they make a outer space shot? What about the air lines.I thank it is time we should hold every thing where it is till the rest catches up to us!

The best for both emissions & millage is , go back to a P-pump fuel system , run a high % of bio , 100% bio has up to 80% less of all but one if the exhaust elements .
An engineer could / should see that they are engineered away from alternate fuels .
