Dealer said "what?? That's a federal offense"

Okay, so I thought I'd call the local Dodge dealer and see if he was willing to look the other way on the DPF delete and EGR delete. He laughed and said, "is there really someone out there making kits to do this??, That's a federal offense and will void your warranty right away".

So I guess he isn't willing to look the other way on those.... 7k miles on this thing, first year motor, I'm having a hard time convincing myself to risk the warranty for 5-6mpg (or more).

You didn't tell him your name, did you? Don't get flagged before you even get into the dealer.

There's been numerous posts about some dealers seeing so many issues with soot etc.and waiting WEEKS for parts that they have said they don't blame a owner for disabling the EGR and removing the DPF.(other sites)They CAN"T turn a head to it but Chrysler MAY have a issue with voiding warranties on the WHOLE truck. They can for sure void warranty on a item that was DAMAGED by removing those items.Does ANYONE know of ANYONE getting fined or in trouble over removal of emission items? I've YET to EVER read of anyone getting in any legal issues because of such and been reading these forums for years.

if your only going to do the deletes for fuel mileage, then don't do it. i looked at the added fuel mileage as a bonus. but it really never figured into my decision. do it to eliminate clogged turbos, dpf cans, egr problems, and to extend the life of the motor. even if you do the deletes, you can reinstall everything in a matter of a few hours. my decision was easy, as the only problems i had were emissions related. i figured if they do void the warranty i'll take care of it myself. truck hasn't seen the dealer since the deletes, the truck runs worlds better, and then there's that very real 4-6 mpg extra i'm getting. gotta love it!

State Boys

I was in a camp grounds in Fresno Calf., this June . I came upon a man one evening that was walking his dog that had a 3500 2007.5. The state boys pick him up for speeding, they also gave him a safety check, they found out that the DPE and cAT was taken off . They had his camper take to a a camp ground and the truck taken to a yard, he was waiting to go to court. The state boys told him he could have a 10,000 + fine, jail time and the truck has to be put back into shape. SO SAY OUT OF CALF. He told me that he was trying to make the truck sound better.

Very rare occurance that someone evens checks for emissions unless required for state inspection. That being said, if someone does and you get busted, then you have to deal with the consequences. I think everyone knows that it is illegal.

Its kinda like oil spills or gas spill at repair shops. The ONLY time I've seen a shop in trouble over such is when a disgruntled employee called EPA.

Really the same thing for the emissions. One of the guys on this site was writing a ticket for another guy that was speeding, and the kid was giving him all sorts of lip. Being diesel smart, he looked under and didn't see the cat he knew was required and gave him a ticket for that. the only case I've heard of other than at the state inspections....
