Curious about the 6.7.

Hi, guys. I'm having troubles with my 06, and if I have to trade it in, I wanted to know what the general impressions were on the 6.7 so that i could decide wether or not to get another 5.9. So, what do you all think about the power, 6speed auto, reliability, mileage, etc?

I love mine! I've had it for about 2 months now ... 2500, QC, 6.7L, 6spd auto, exhaust brake, 4x4, completely stock. The 6spd auto is really sweet but the biggest suprise was the exhaust brake, it's the best thing ever.

Read up on the 6.7L though. A lot of folks are having troubles with the new emmissions stuff, mainly the DPF filling up. To get the DPF to clean itself, you have to get the truck up to temp and keep it there for the DPF to burn out the soot, otherwise it'll clog and off you go to the dealership. This also has an impact on MPG, so alot are complaining about that too.

Mine is a daily driver and I also tow a larger camper on the weekends. So, I've not had any troubles yet with the DPF. It has tons of power and I've had NO issues with it so far.

But, if you want to seriously mod your CTD, you'd best stick with the 5.9L. Removing the DPF and other emmissions crap is a violation of federal law, this stuff is mandated by the EPA. So if you're into moding, work out the issues with your 5.9L.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I do like to mod, but I'm sure they'll come out with something for these trucks too!

FYI, it's the same for the 5.9L about removing any emmissions stuff.

True, Dodge man, but you only have the CAT to deal with on the 5.9s. I have 5 sensors from the downpipe to the back of the muffler alone, not to mention all the additional baggage under the hood to monitor who knows what.

All I'm saying is the 6.7s have much more emmisions stuff to circumvent if that's your thing.

I have had several CTDs and this one is the best so far. Get an 08 or newer as lots of the 07s had issues. There are many low mileage 07s out there but I think it's because guys got tired of the problems and traded them in very quickly.
The truck is great but the mileage isn't......

No concerns with the 07

2500 quad cab, 4x4, stock. I have had my 07 for one year and I have experienced 15000 miles with zero problems. Seems like a pretty good truck to me. I love the 6 speed automatic and I used the exhaust brake frequently in the mountiains with my popup slide in camper or running the truck empty. The fuel economy in town isnt great but it you dont drive it like a teenager you can easily keep the mileage around 13 or so. On the highway at 75 I average 18.5 to 20...usually around 19 to 19.2 The DPF has never clogged. It did come on once on the over head and said it had reached I believe about 80 but I had been doing alot of in town driving for awhile which isnt normal. All you do is take it on the highway at 55 for about 40 minutes and the DPF clears itself out. That really isnt a big deal. If you actually drive the truck at highway speeds a couple of weeks you will never even know it is going through a regen. Not sure what others are experiencing but I havent seen any difficulties what-so-ever. Great truck. I used to own a chevy and dodge is built well. It does ride a little rougher but I am pleased with the diesel so far.

I have only had mine for 2-3 weeks and I love the power... I love the tranny... I love the E-brake.... and over all I think it is a better truck. The only thing that concerns me is the emissions stuff... I am in the fields a lot and I don't want to pull off in the tall grass while the exhaust is in regen and running 1400*F!!!
It's just not good for the paintjob!

My mileage hasn't been as bad as others... I drive 70 with cruise and I generally get 17ish unhooked.... When I hook up to the cargo trailer I get 12(+/-1)

I just did a 262.3 mile trip, city/hwy, and used 16.4 gal, that tranlates to 15.99, by hand calulations. I have 2200 miles on the truck, oh ya, thats at about 65 on the freeway.

I like mine. The power is great and the mileage is ok (13.5 ish city and 18 ish highway). I don't have the auto but kinda wish I would have gone that way. Mine had a few bugs that appear to have been worked out (bad wiring). I am worried about the DPF and too many short trips creating problems in the future with the emissions stuff, but no problems so far.

Wink Weeeeeeelllll..........

I had an 06 mega 2wd manual 5.9 and the mileage was always averaging around 20mpg. I traded it on an 07 6.7 dually and I am getting around 18mpg with the TS mp8. The truck definately pulls stronger and has a few more upgrades/doo-dads from 06. Once the DPF code free kits come out it will be in the 20smpg and I will be very happy, Scott

(I have about 20k on mine, running grear after latest flash and turbo)

I have had mine for since Feb 14 this year and love the truck. It has 2,000 miles on it and around town it gets 13-15 mpg and 17-19 hwy. The only thing I have done to the engine is install a 5.9 air filter which did help about 1 mpg. The trans works great as the engine brake too!

I wanted to add, some of the guys are reporting 18+/- at 75mph, anything for me over 70, mine drops to 12.0=13.6mph on the overhead, at 64=65mph about 17.2 +/-. I wish mine would maintain 17+ at 70 to 75 mph. Oh well maybe with some more miles it will.
What is the DPF deal?? also the TS mp8??
Thanks
