"correct" fuel filter won't fit?!!

I have a 08 ram, 6.7L, I looked at the door tag just to confirm, pic 1, .
I went to NAPA to get a fuel filter, they somehow had a fleetguard back there, the only one left. I figured cool, and bought it. The box says 07-09 6.7L. Got home, removed the old filter, pic 2 is it. Pic 3 is the box. But the filter I pulled out is Pic 4. They were a little different, I figured it must work. But nope, the filter won't even fit in the housing. Pic 5 is the two filters, Pic 6 is the housing.

Anybody know why and what is going on? Is it possible the filter is for a chassis cab or other application, not a ram, and the housing is different?

Is there a different part number or name I need? The person at the counter may have not known what I really needed. Thanks for the help.....

Hmm Strange...

I literally bought a new housing and spare cartridge today...

They are the same style as the new cartridge with the white plastic.

Its a fleetgaurd too, same box.

I can get the part number and some pics even tomorrow. They may have changed the housing.

No pic six by the way...

Weird. Oh yeah, 5 attahment limit, it was the housing, was black, said Mopar. I have seen photos of fleet guard housings. Is it possible there are two different housings?

So your filter looked like the new white one? What did your housing look like?

EDIT: Your filter was white, was the housing? Maybe I just need to get a new housing. Did yours come with a WIF built in then?

This is the housing pic. In retrospect I should have gotten the whole housing, but I was interested that the label said through 2006. I think that applies to the business trademark though.

Did some reading, cummins went to the FS2 design in 08 some time, so sounds like some trucks, mine was an early 08, have the old style. The new white filter looks like it has a small inner filter on it, the old one is similar to the one from my 2000 ram. I have a feeling I need a new housing that fits the FS2 style filter.

Only concern then is, because this still has the old housing and I can't seem to find the old filter, DID THEY EVER CHANGE THE FILTER? I hope so.

What does the new housing look like, anyone got a part number?

Sounds like I just need the new housing then. Read somewhere their dealer replaced the old one, anyone verify that? Seems like they should pay for it if they changed it, but hey, that's asking the dealer to make sense.

Not the first time they did this. I recently had me 04.5 into a different dealer for an oil change and FF change. The first question the service writer asked me was if I had the updated filter housing or the stock one. Mine must have been changed to the new style while under warranty because I didn't pay for an upgrade. The filters will not interchange.

Thanks guys. I would go to the dealer and see if it's covered, but the only dealer in town, Genes, is aweful. F with the BBB. I will just be ordering it elsewhere.

I am assuming the Mopar and Fleetguard are identical, just different prices. Correct? I'd rather support Cummins than Chrysler. Their website says no body here in Fairbanks is a dealer though.

EDIT: For fleetguard that is, Cummins has authorized repair shops, I bet they carry them.

I got mine at O'Reillys. Im assuming yall dont have one at the North Pole...

I would think that the Mopar and Fleetgaurd are the same, and given the choice Id choose Fleetgaurd. Besides, its got that cool C emblem on the side of the canister.....

Called the Kenworth and truck repair shops, don't have any on hand. None at NAPA, sold out, of course, the dealer has them, wants $88. Guess I will go with genos.

Genos shipped it to AK for 20$ less than the dealer wanted, the part is on it's way.
