Cel
Cel
While towing to the race track today my CEL came on. Does the truck have a way to show the code or do you have to hook it to a scanner. I looked at the computer in the over head and it said System OK.
without starting the engine, cycle the key to the on position 3 times quickly. On the third time leave the key in the on position and then read the codes that will be displayed in your odometer.
With all the sensors on these things sometimes all it takes is a tiny one-time glitch to light the CEL. If all is well, it will take about 5 "good" restarts and the CEL will go off automatically. If there's something wrong that won't cure itself the CEL will stay lit past the 5 restarts. Then it's off to the dealer to find out what's up.
Good luck!!
Good luck!!
I wonder if running it hard will clean the EGR like it helps with the DPF? I guess I'll be throwing the stock air filter back on for a possible trip to the dealer soon. I only have 7700 miles on mine...

My EB is always the first thing I turn on when I start my truck.
One other thing I've noticed over the past two weeks is that my overhead has gotten way out of whack. It used to read exactly .2 mpg higher than I was actually getting. Now it reads 1.5 mpg higher. Oh well, it's worthless now except to fool passengers in the truck with me...

Do yourself a favor and buy a code reader. I bought one at Wal*Mart for less than $100 (they also have one for about half that without all the features). I got tired of bringing the truck into a dealer every time a CEL came on and wouldn't extinguish itself. Now I can not only read exactly what set off the CEL but I can also erase the light at the same time. Most of the time it's only a nuisance code and the light will stay off for a few weeks before reappearing. Lately, it's been related to an O2 sensor glitch which mustn't be too serious since the light stays out for quite a while before having to be reset.
I think these CEL's are going to be a constant issue throughout the life of the truck so a code reader is a good investment. Additionally, you will have a record of what's causing the CEL's and this gives you a little more clout when dealing with the service department if that becomes necessary.

Yeah, the CELs are a nuisance but if the truck keeps running fine then it's much easier to deal with. I think I'm gonna get one of those readers/code clearers myself. I was constantly using my Predator to clear codes on the 07 I had...
