Cat 7.2?

I was reading the brochure for the 08 Ford F550-F650. Under engine options they offer the CTD 6.7, the PSD 6.0 and the Caterpillar 7.2. So I'm assuming all 3 engines are roughly of the same physical size and weight. If so, that means the CAT 7.2 would probably fit into our trucks.

It is a 24 valve direct rail I-6 just like the CTD, and is rated at 325 hp but 850 ft lbs of torque! Makes me wonder who the first truck manufacturer will be to offer the CAT engine in a 3/4T or 1T pickup? Imagine having a little black and yellow badge on the outside of your truck that said "CAT". I'd stand in line to get one of those!

You are looking at about 1400 lbs dry on the C7 Cat according to the spec sheet.

I’m NO expert, but I have poked around and the rumor has it that the new Toyota will have this engine or something similar to it. A few months back I was in an airport and in a mag. like Motor Week there where two pages Talking about CAT and Toyota that showed a blown up picture of a Toyota add with a CAT 'bob-cat' in the back.. and the article went on to say that Toyota and Nascar with the new CAT sponsor is writing on the wall for what is to come.... IMOP it will be a AWESOME truck that will probably be about $55-60K bucks.... and UNLIKE the American 'big three' Toyota will take a WHOPPING $500 bucks of the sticker..... LOL
I do have to add that I have a Dodge 6.7 Dually now and love it... I still own a Toyota 4Runner that I have had for 14 years... It STILL drives like the day I bought it and I have replaced the Batt. and radiator.. with 200K miles... Built like a tank!!!!

I gaurantee whatever Cat goes into a Toyota will not be the 7.2 It would be some new engine designed specifically for their vehicles

In addition, the CAT ACERT technology is for the birds. Looks like a 6.4L Ferd (twin turbos, twin EGR coolers, twin charge air coolers, etc).

It is the F650/750 only for those engines and I believe the Cummins has the highest GVW of the 3 engines in those chassis'.

I dont know what the big hoop-la is about CAT engines. Seems like everyone is hung up on a name

The C7 is a gutless pile of junk; I would take a 6.7 in an F650-F750 over a cat ANY DAY. Its based on the proven 5.9 and uses technologies that are efficent and troublefree.

HEUI and ACERT. Worst ideas ever IMHO.

ben

ps...why would toyota EVER put a cat in their pickup truck? Where do people get these ideas? If they ever get a diesel it will be a toyota in-house engine or a Hino-designed engine. Toyota has absolutely NO reason to outsource; they already make some darn good diesels.

I hate to say it but if toyota comes out with a "true" full size truck, (not one of these that fall somewhere in the middle like they currently offer) 1 ton 4x4, cc, lb, drw I know where there would be three that I know of for sure. Their track record of quality is unsurpassed in the world and domestic market, the big three would be shaking in their boots.

Now I might have misread this but the other day reading news and business a short article about Nissan and Toyota have dropped their plans on a full size diesel trucks in this country. To much money involved in new tooling from the ground up and meeting emission requirments etc.Nissan is also dropping the Pathfinder and Armada to invest in more smaller fuel efficent autos in this country.

Make sure you **** all over your fellow Americans while your at it.

The quality is not that much different to warrant giving your money to support another country's economy.

And yeah, I know everything is made everywhere (jap cars assembled in US, US cars assembled there, etc).

It is not important where a vehicle is designed, developed, or manufactured. What is important is where the revenue goes when you purchase the vehicle. When you buy a Toyota, you are giving iyour hard earned American currency to their economy, further lowering the value of our dollar and increasing the trade defecit.

Still have a job? Keep buying foreign.

The current problem with putting in heavier or more powerful engines is the rest of the truck has to be upgraded to and that is seriously eating into payload and front axle capacity as it is. The next step up for transmission strength is a lot of added weight. Look at the transmissions put behind the 6.7 & 7.2 in the 650/750 and see how much they weigh.
