Angry Ca Emissions *****

WARNING!!!!! For all CA residents considering engine/exhaust system mods. Beginning Jan 1, 2010, all your diesel trucks will be subject to mandatory smog checks, just like gassers have been for years. AB 1488 was passed through the legislature and the governator signed it. It requires all lightweight diesel vehicles to pass smog tests. "THIS BILL ALONE WILL REMOVE ONE AND A HALF TONS OF DANGEROUS AIR POLLUTANTS A DAY IN CA" Insulting comment removed.

Please refrain from insulting anyone on the forums. Thanks. -jrs_dodge_diesel

My advise to you is to move out of that disgraceful state (if you live there currently).

Yeah no doubt the only problem is big government in CA gives big government in the other 49 states bad ideas probably in 15 or 20 years it'll be like that everywhere if we let it happen.

Maybe that insulting comment removed might be appropriate in this case.

Guess we'll have to stop adding 2 stroke oil, ATF and all the other magic potions to our fuel tank too.

Just got done with another vacation and towing. Emmisions wise, you can eat off the inside of the tailpipe.

It is the right thing to do.

I'm not happy about paying for it, but someone has to!

To all the procrastinators out there, good luck, it'll get there soon enough too.

That only applies to NEW vehicles purchased in 2010, if you have a diesel now, it is smog exempt. Get it while the getting is good...

Further Info RE AB 1488

The link below states that this will apply to diesel vehicles Model year 1997 and later with GVW [COLOR="Red"]LESS THAN 8501 lb.[COLOR="Black"]This appears to make our trucks exempt. I apologise for any offense caused by my original comment and will try to refrain from further transgression.

Does this make old 12 valves even more valuable?

Nope!

According to what has been posted as long as it was made before 2008 and is over 8501 gvw this legislature has no effect. All 2500hd were 8600+ gvw so they are exempt.

"8501" applies to 1500s only and maybe some of the 2500 light dutys (7 lug) that ford made in the late 90's.
