Buy a new truck or not ??

I currently run an 06 quad cab with 40K and I like it just fine. My main driving is around town and HWY miles with some occasional towing thrown in.

My accountant has told me I need to spend some money, so I'm thinking about possibly upgrading to a new truck with the megacab.

Ive read the new 6.7 have their share of problems and I belive the aftermarket mods on the 6.7 are not as plentiful as they are on the 5.9.

So, I guess I'm looking at, do I keep what I have with the tried & true 5.9, or upgrade?

Also, what kind of milage are you 6.7 guys getting on average ???

The mileage will probably never be as good as the 5.9 due to displacement and emmisions. There are improvements that can be had though if you're willing to try and "upgrade".

I would suggest to keep the 06 & go get yourself a new 6.7 ias well f you need to spend some $ as there are some real good deals out. Maybe you don't need 2 trucks, but if you can afford it, do it.

Don't think I would look at a new truck with the talks going on with GM right now. Sounds like one way or another Cerberus wants out.

Once a 6.7 goes on a diet and loses some weight then the mileage is great. Even better than most 5.9s except for 12 valves or 03-04 CRs......

Either I spend some or Uncle Sam takes a bigger bite.

I never believed I would find myself in this type of situation especially after getting my butt handed to me with my divorce. After basically starting over at the ripe old age of 42, I'd like to think I deserve it.

Not looking good for a new truck though. Maybe I'll upgrade to an 06 megacab and lift it with wheels & tires instead.

I hate to jump the post but I had my butt taken away from me in the divorce when I was 46. I'm 53 now and still cant crawl out of the rut.

If it were me with such a low mileage '06, I would look to do some "repairs" and "improvements" to the current rig for tax purposes. Anything you've wanted to do to the truck (such as the lift and tires you were talking about for the new truck) that you've been putting off?

But can you write off those improvements? If you find a Mega with the lift and tires already then I think the accountant or tax man wouldn't have a problem with that....

Well the "lift" could be because the suspension is worn on the truck and needs replacement and...ahem...upgrading. The tires are worn, so new...ahem...upgraded tires need to be bought. The wheels were out of round so...ahem...upgraded ones need to be installed. A decent accountant can make all of these things fall under "repairs/improvements" if the truck is used for a business.

You get the miles right off or maintenance and cost not both.

They are trying to stick it to you if they are only offering $10K in trade but want $30K for a USED 07 6.7L. You can buy a brand spanking new 08 6.7L for $30K nowadays and probably sell your '04 outright for $15-17K.
