All I know is racing turbo drag cars.

Maybe diesel doesnt use the throttle body to control the rpm? Does the skinny pedal control the fuel instead of the air?

There is no throttle body, just the Throttle valve. I believe its there to regulate the flow of clean intake air vs EGR recirculated flow. The butterfly valve opens and closes depending on how much flow the EGR is producing. If the EGR is bypassed and the valve closes.....

Then you have trouble.

Good thread here. The skinny pedal controls fuel in the diesel and not the air. This fuel control is what controls RPM, not limiting air like a gas motor. For a diesel, it normally runs wide open for the air. The TV on these new motors is added for control of the smog functions...

Prior to me ME upgrade of the smarty, I was towing with the Smarty standard version, and had just added my S & B intake. I was cruising down some flat area and all of a sudden I heard a bunch of popping/cavitating noise coming from the intake side and the truck shuddered a bit due to power loss pulses. It lasted off and on a minute or more. I pulled over to check things out and could find nothing. I did it one time on the tow back. I did not have any gauges at the time and did not know what the heck was going on (still don't) so that is when I said time for the ME version.

I have not experienced that weird issue again yet after the ME. I think it may have been the TV doing some weird things causing the turbo to "cavitiate" or whatever was happening...

No way its the actual butterfly valve for the intake? If you unplug the sensor how would your truck be able to move?
I think you are confusing this item with its actual purpose.. Diesels don't control air for engine speed control.

I got it now, Blake got me set straight.....again.
Thanks again Blake

Im going to unplug the sensor before I drive home today. Is it known that once the connector is unplugged that the valve sticks open? Do I need to take that intake horn off and open it up manually.

No Prob...

Its not so much as setting straight... its all about learning.

For 75 bucks the piece of mind that the throttle valve delete offers is well worth it.....

I need to also get a cooler delete too right?
Where can I get them? I looked but everyone seems to sell the cooler and the egr delete at the same time.

I would recommend you do the cooler delete too. Unless you have to go back to stock every year for emissions testing, no reason not to do it.

PM Lary, he might be able to get just the cooler stuff. You'd be surprised at the amount of stuff he has available for order.

Rollin Smoke does have it too....

Unless your going for a big build, or just want too, I dont see a reason.

Unless you want to spend the extra dough....

If so Id go with the Shibby unit....

No block off plates needed, pre tapped ports, and a discount on the throttle valve delete.

But for the average Joe, the plates and TVD would be fine. Thats all I have. If I need the entire intake, Ill get it later.

I noticed this morning that my turbine speed went down to 0 at idle with 0.4-0.5 lbs of boost. Im still waiting on parts. Could my turbo be clogged? How can i test that?

There may be a problem with the speed sensor. If the turbo was actually stalled at idle, it would be siezed. Your manifold pressure would be negative as well (if the MAP sensor would read that low).

EB on and run the heck out of it...

If it functions normally then I would worry about it being clogged. If its still reading goofy as LD said, it may be a sensor.

You using an insight to monitor correct, Id unplug it and see if it resets and give it another go.
