Unhappy Black Tail Pipe and Low 10-11mpg

My truck has 24000miles my tail pipe was clean up to 20000. Past 4 was turning black. Is it something i need to worry about? Is a stk truck. Anybody can report milage and if their tail pipe is black. I was under impresion that with nox and dpf tail pipe should stay clean too. Also my milage is kind of low. Hand calculated 99% city driving is 10 - 11 mpg.

its a diesel. even gas motors with all their emissions garbage on them turn black. what you need to be looking for is excessive smoke if the truck is stock.

There is a possibility that the DPF has cracked internally. I would book an appt with the local dealer.

Went to the dealer several times with mpg concern and black tail pipe. The answer to my my concerns was. To show them where it states the 10 - 11 mpg is to low. Concern about DPF and Nox thay said black tail pipe is normal and there is noting to worry about. Personally I think that they dont know how to test it. Had a code p2000 coming in and out numerous of times. Their answer was possibly bad fuel or that i drive so slow and idle it for to long of the time. My oxigen sensors are bad and they order them to be replaced for 3rd time in a row. Now why my oxi sensors are getting stock with all that black stuff. ? About software ver on ecm not sure they said is the newest one.
History of work performed
at 7000 new turbo and oxi sensors
about 14000 injectors replaced and oxi sensors
24000 rear differntial
Numerus amount of check engine light, software updates.
Now getting 10-11 mpg city all times and black tail pipe and run around
wit what i do wrong.
Told me that i drive to easy "6.7 need to work"
well went and ask them if i drive harder will be ok.
So i go and drive harder and then what rear differential.
HD 2500 24000 story.

Love the truck so much when is ok. But most of the time is not.
p2000 code is a emission related code what after a warranty. What next ?
fail emission test.

Lild Dog. Thats what i am affraid of the nox or dpf is not working correctly. Now is there a dealer in IL close to Chicago that can check DPF and nox. Looks like this truck is still to new and some techs dont know how to fix them. Dont understand how you can make a truck so advance in electronics and have a service department with dont know how to test them.

With a DPF filter there should be zero black. I am currently going to school for diesel and they told us that you just do the white glove test, if there is ANY black on the stack that the DPF is bad, and the driver owes 10 grand. This is for semi's of course but it should still apply for pickups. And 10-11 mpg is to low. Go in there and raise hell. If its still under warranty demand that it get fixed cause thats just ridiculous

SDGUY55. Thank you for response as i think the same but techs at dodge say that everything is working correctly. It makes me think that they just dont know how to test it or they just dont want to warraty dpf's. Don't know what to do anymore. When i bought 6.7 the 5.9 had good reputation for avg city 16-19mpg and some or none problems (My dad is a semi truck driver he used to say that cummins engines you will have 100 perfect 1 crapy that will die at start. Buying 6.7 got me thinking little biger same company most of parts are same. Here we go i am stock with 10-11mpg and a black tail pipe and service sticks to same "everthing is ok tail shoud be black" and as of mpg where does it say it should do whatever number you thing it should. 10-11 mpg is compleatly fine with them because they are not the once by the gas station. Tried other dealers around me and they are even worse. Why would the truck do 10-11mpg what can be wrong with it?

yes my friend you have a problem with your truck. we have a 08 chevy with 15k on it and the tailpipe is still as clean as the day we bought it. and we are gettin between 15-18mpg

i doubt a cummins dealer would be able to look at it and do warrenty work but you may take it to them and see if they can figure out what is wrong and then have them explain the problem to your dodge dealer.

If it was still under warranty i would say go to HEAD shop manager and talk to him if he still says the same thing start goin up the **** ladder. Either that or turn into a complete *** and walk in drop off the keys and say i dont want it back till it gets 10-11 when doing a burnout with 20k load behind .

Angry

Tried this before. They took it and they called me same day stating that nothing is wrong with the truck. Come and pick it up. They dont care is not their problem. I dont have a proff how much should be getting as for mpg same for a black tail pipe. Dont have any proff for them that tail pipe should be clean also. Head manager of service thinks same as tech's "there is nothing wrong with it". Went and called 800 chrysler number and they dont want to listen to the problems i am having. all they say is "what seems to be the problem with the dealership" thats all. I said that they dont know how to fix it and asked them is someone is there who will. Replay is same "what seems to be problem with dealership. Tried other dealers around all of them say eather that they dont have a 6.7 diesel tech only sprinter and thats i a diffarent animal. I was stupid long time ago I should lemon this truck but now is to late. I like the truck and i was giving them a chance's hoping that 1 day will be fixed and good. Have 10000 to go before warranty ends dont know what to do.

Wow thats pretty horrible. There could alot of reasons why your tail pipe is gettin all black. But my first guess is that the DPF is screwed..maybe someone on here will have a better answer for you? In either case it would be kind of tough to go to them and say with confidence 'i know this part is not working correctly i want it replaced' cause im sure they will just shrug you off.

Its not for certain, but for the soot to get through the DPF must be cracked or have a hole in it. Also it must not be maintaining high enough EGT's to get a full clean. Either way its faulty. If you are not worried about the last 10,000 in warrenty, I would say invest some $$ in a Smarty, get a delete pipe installed and make it black permanently!

Exactly, delete delete delete, then be proud of just how black that pipe will get!
