BD Pup, Should/Shouldn't I ??
BD Pup, Should/Shouldn't I ??
I bought a BD Pup about a month ago for my 3500 Cab/Chassis 6.7 primarily
for better fuel milage.
When I bought it the salesman couldn't get it to recognize my truck when he plugged it in.
He called BD Factory and they said reflash needed.
I had it reflashed a few days later and the Pup still wouldn't recognize
my truck.
I'm suppose to take it back today to get salesman to call factory back and try again to get pup to work.
I'm thinking it may be a difference in the P/U and the C/C motors reflash
or something technical like that.
But:
I'm not sure if I still want the Pup to recognize my vehicle.
1..My truck, 60,000 miles, has being trouble free from problems that some 6.7 owners have had.
2..I'm still not sure if the BDP will void my warranty, w/40,000 miles left on motor.
Questions:
Should I get,, or try to get,, a refund ($475) on the Pup?
The truck runs good now, will the Pup possibly screw things up with the good running 6.7? (if pup starts working)
and will the Pup void the warranty on the 6.7?
Other thoughts and ideas welcome.

I don't have any experience with modifying theses engines, but there is a guy on here who is a tester for edge and says he loves the mods. He didn't mention any problems with the truck resulting from the mods. He did say he was getting 18.5mpg or something like that. You could maybe do a search and find him and ask him some questions. From what I understand only the major components on the engine are warranted for 100k. The emission system is only 50k.
I would keep it and try it. I have had no problems with my edge and hopefully I can beta test for quadzilla they are getting ready to start on theres.Your warrenty that is the most debated question on here. Put it on and use it. If you have to take your truck to the dealership reprogram it back to stock. Some say they can still tell same say they cant, so who knows. They should be able to warrenty it unless the chip caused the problem. I have never taken mine off level 6 and I hardly ever drive like a sane person. But when I do I will get 18-19 mpg. That is hand caculating for maybe 200 miles I cant drive that good for very long. My over head unit reads different because of the tires.
I bought the DB Pup for my 6.7L. The first thing you have to do is to go to their website (www.bullydog.com) and do the update to your box. Mine did the 'same' thing as yours...unknown vehicle..msg when I plugged it in. Apparently, bullydog wants you to start off with the latest version of the programming, so initially it will give you the msg you saw, forcing you to get the latest update.
Once I did my update over the internet from their download center, it worked fine.
Now.. did I notice any improvements? Well, too early to know. I downloaded the Tow/Economy program first and drove it maybe 30-50 miles on it. It seemed to be more sluggish and did not downshift nearly as much, but it did seem to have very good torque. Sounds appropriate for a tow/economy setting. I did not really notice much inprovement in accelleration (ie, preformance) but didn't really expect it from a setting labeled tow/economy.
I returned the ECM to 'stock', mostly because I was worried about the EGT and transmission temps. I had the Edge Comp w/Drag on my '01 and I know quite well how this sort of programming effect temps.
Before I return the ECM to other than a stock setting, I will wait until I get my Commander in and installed. I will feel much better once I can monitor what's going on temp wise...even under stock settings.

The power pup does NOT work on the 08 6.7 as of right now even with the updates. Even though their website says it does the tech guy couldn't get mine to work and said they are waiting on a new flash. I wish they hadn;'t lied to me in the first place
It looks like you have the Chassie Cab truck. That is a little different engine from the regular pickup trucks. The BD Pup you have might be for the regular pickup truck 6.7l engine, not the CC. Contact them and make sure you have the correct one for your CC truck.
