Back from the darkside....

Thank Gawd!

About 2 years ago my girlfriend (G/F) convinced me that my '04 RAM 3500 upgraded with a major BOATLOAD of goodie$, was a piece of junk! The $700.00 Banks exhaust was just tooo loud!

"DUHHH, what should I buy?"

Long story short....I bought an '07 Chevrolet with Duramax (LBZ) and 6 speed Allison...Nice motor and trans....the rest of the truck was quiet and civilized, but BORING, BLAND, and ASLEEP!

How much did I loose in depreciation, add-ons, misc, and ++++++? DON"T ASK!! (as they say, mucho dinero)

Well, I took the G/F to the G/F recycling bins and now I am about ready to order a new RAM with all the goodies and get a real truck back in the stable!

Let this be a lesson to you Grasshopper......

But I do have a couple questions....

1.) I am going to get 10K (GVW)toy hauler....is the 3.73 enough gears or should I get the 4.10 gears?

2.) Is there ANY way to order the new RAM WITHOUT a trailer hitch?

Otherwise I plan on ordering ASAP, and maybe for spite, I just might put a Banks exhaust on it!

You can order the truck without the tow package which would get rid of the hitch, but you would also lose the 7-pin wiring as well.

3:73 will be just fine for a 10K trailer. As far as no trailer tow, it is only like 300.00 for it and then you have all the wiring to go with it.Dave Smith motors told me when I was doing my shopping that they ordered all there 1 tons without the trailer tow option to give there customers better options in the hitches they wanted. I kinda called BS on that but it does prove that you can get them without the tow pac.

Also....with the tow package there is usually an upgraded cooling system and trans cooler. I wouldn't even consider ordering one without it. If you want to upgrade the hitch , that is understandable, but go ahead and order the tow package. It will be worth it in the long run and especially if you trade or sell it. The next buyer is gonna want all the factory tow as well.

VZDUDE. On some or most gas applications tow package is a trans cooler and upgraded fan/clutch assembly but on the diesels its all the same except for trailer harness etc.

when you get the tow package this doesnt not include the gear option right? every truck comes with 3.73 unless you specifically get the 4.10?

what is the over all differance in the 4.10 vs the 3.73 both towing and daily driving?

I knew that too! Something was telling me that it was a gasser I was thinking about! Anywho.....the factory wiring, IMO, is worth the $300. I have run some of those wires before, and I can't make it look as nice and neat as they do!

As others have hinted 3.73's work fine, 4.10's will give you a little more get up and go but will somewhat suffer on the top end as in MPG.

But once again if you plan on doing the mod thing again just to show the ex that you can, 4.10's + oh let's say 35" tires or so will roughly get you back in the 3.73 range. If you go with 3.73's and 35's it might seem a little slugish while pulling.

I pull 10k lbs with 3.73s and 48RE tranny rolling on 35" Toyos and have no problem. I'd say around 12k lbs is when I'd be wishing for 4.10s.

With 37's I'd say yes, go 4.10s. With 35's I say it depends how much you're pulling and how often, and where you go.
