So the aluminum driveshafts began with the 6.7Ls?

Anyone swapped out the steel ones from behind their 5.9L for one?

I'm not sure if it has to do with the 6.7 or not. I think I've seen steel or aluminum depending on the application. My 2007 MC has an aluminum on and I thought I saw pics of a QC (in a skid plate thread) that had the multi-piece steel one...

I was at the dealer the other day talking to my friend that's the diesel mech and he had a shaft out of a 5500 truck and it was definitely not aluminum. That thing was HEAVY and rusted.

Most drivetrain or heavy truck shops such as fleetpride will retube a driveshaft for $100 or less.

Are you sure about that? I just looked at mine and my '06 Megacab 4x4 has a two-piece steel drive shaft.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Mine DEFINITELY has an AL one and it is huge. I've seen the same with yours... So maybe it is a 6.7L thing...

Hey no problem, except that I took the truck in today for CEL and probably won't get it back until Friday...

I would guess that it is something like 6" diameter or so.

Definitely goes with the BEEF of the rest of the truck. Looks oversized and strong as heck. Maybe more prone to bashing type of damage though? I read the alloy stamp as 6061 on the tube which is aircraft grade... Not cheap.
