About to purchase a 6.7 dually??
Im about to purchase a 6.7 with 6 speed auto dually for business purposes and my daily load will just come under 20,000 pounds. I see all drivers with that big of a load have 6 speed manual. Im thinking this new auto will hold up. Anyways, I plan on puting over 100k miles a year. I was thinking for reliabilty and mpg i will add a air intake, 5 inch exhaust and a programmer. With that big of a load daily, would u guys reccomend a rear diff cover and a tranny pan cover that are bigger? Would u reccomend a manual?? Anything u guys would reccomend? BTW i never owned a dodge and my daily driver is a f250 4x4 with a 6.0L. Im going with dodge cause well, its got the cummins baby!!!!!!!!!!! Im getting a 45k truck for 35k. Or i could get a 07 5.9 with 4 auto or 6 manual laramie brand new for 31. DECECSIONS SUCK getting this close. Any help would be more then appreciated
That idea came to mind but the full truck looks so much nicer and not just a tow rig as the chassis cab is, although that tranny is nice. Maybe 1 day dodge will put the aisen in all 3500 rams or as an option!!!
The new auto's are doing great and so far there are no problems. It's fine you don't like them but don't say the NEW auto's are bad as you don't have one.
It would be like me saying to stay away from the stick as I had trouble (and I did) but it happens. Do I hate manuals, no I'm just tired of shifting.

ive test driven the 4 speed auto and 6 speed auto, if i were to do the 5.9 way, i would for sure do the 6 speed manuel, ive heard all good about the new auto too and im thinking that i might just do the auto still, even if i gotta do a rebuild at 150k, or even a 100k, i will beef it up then, but from the gecko im adding a mag-htec extra deep pan along with the rear diff cover too
Well look around on here a little. Not just me with auto troubles. The auto will not handle much towing. I just do want anyone get stuck with a stupid auto from chrysler like I did. Plus the way dealers and chrysler are now its not worth the risk.
Well, get the manual with 3.73's. It is the same as auto/4.10's and well worth it. Kev94MX had the 3.73's with the auto and you can see what happened to his auto. TRASHED. I personally think it was due to gearing. It put more stress on the auto/48re than it could handle, with that kind of weight, it is not rated to pull that weight with 3.73's. If it breaks and DC finds out about it you will be in the same boat. MAD, NO WARRANTY and a BIG FAT BILL. So do what you like. With that weight it is 6-speed manual/3.73's or 6-speed auto/4.10's. Just my .02.
If you are going to be on the highway most of the time shifting won't be that bad.

First, I recommend you read other posts within the 6.7L forum and form your own opinions about the new engine. You mentioned that reliability is important due to mileage accumulated during a year. My opinion is 5.9 equals reliability and the 6.7L will result in high mileage in trips back and forth to the service department.

By the way, my 48re is O.K. with 4.10's. I hate the TC and to tighten that up it will run at least $3500 in parts with me doing all the work to make me happy. TC,VB, flexplate, Billet Input shaft and drum. I am riding it out until my powertrain warranty is gone until I spend any money on it.
