6-speed auto tranny question .....
Just got a new leftover '07 with the auto 6-speed. I'm coming off a '06 5.9. With the '06, I use to drive around town with the OD off, keep the RPMs up, average 16-17 mpg (per over head), life was great. Now with this 6-speed, it's shifting, running around 1300 rpms, and I'm feeling like I"m lugging this thing around! What are you guys doing? I kinda feel like I should be putting it in 4th or 5th and leaving it there for running around town. I didn't get much info from the dealer, bought it this weekend, guess all the truck guys were off and the "challanger" sales crew were on!! Thanks!

I just put it in 'D' and drive. 6.7L doesn't get as good MPG as the 5.9L, so no use trying to out think it. I also came from the 5.9L w/4-speed auto. Yeah, it runs a lower RPM, but the auto always seems to be in the "right" gear.

In town I always have the toggle shift set for 4th. This way it only goes up to 4th gear and holds and not try and get into 6th to putt around at 1300 Rpm. Soot problems are reported with this configuration.. Also I like T/H mode instead of the conventional drive mode for higher RPM shifts and downshifting with the EB on.. FWIW..

I too keep it in 4th until I get out of town and on the highway. It always feels like it is lugging, dropping the R's so lowif you just leave it in drive. They gave us the toggle switch for a reason.
