I had to take a little trip today to ValAir in Mineral Wells today in order to pick up a new clutch for my fathers '05. Mineral Wells is right at 365 miles from my house. I topped off last night and reset the odometer. Topped off again when I got home.
Trip: 731.8 miles
Gallons: 34.870 gallons
MPG: 20.9865
This was driving through San Antonio during rush hour both ways and driving through 16 small towns each way for a grand total of 32 towns (yeah...i counted) plus San Antonio, Mineral Wells, and Alice. It was also raining off and on the whole trip there and back. There was no wind to speak of, but I drove up Hwy 281 the whole way and it goes through the hill country and lake country. There are some steep grades on that road.
Vitals of the truck:
-25875 miles on the truck as of return
-G56 Manual
-3.42 Gears
-325/70R17 Tires
-Speedometer calibrated and spot on, verified by GPS
-Edge set on Level 5 with low-end responsiveness on "highest" setting
-Power Pup on "tow"
-Shaved Bluetec badge
Based on the less-than-perfect conditions for this mileage run, I am confident I can see 22mpg on a pure highway trip. The DTE on my OHC also said I still had 36 miles to empty when i pulled up to the pump today. I honestly think I can get 800 miles to a tank, but probably won't be trying that one anytime soon...lol
Smarty? I don't need no steeeeenking Smarty!!!

Man! I was at 1/8 tank yesterday morning with only 400 miles on my truck!! Something's gotta give!! I think I may, once again, have to eat crow and buy something to make this mileage go up some..... Dangit! I swore I was staying stock!!!!!!!

I don't know, 650.00 for a delete kit aint too bad. Getting closer to ordering it every mile. If I wasn't getting 50MPG on my bike going back and forth to work it would be done already

Funny thing is, it doesn't take "highly" modified to make these things run. The 6.7L really is a great motor but, Jesus guys, the thing has GOT to be allowed to BREATH. IMO, the mileage was just the pleasant side-effect of removing the BlueTec badge. The real killer is that EGR. If you guys have a chance to play around, pull your intake and take a look inside. You wouldn't believe how much crap is being pumped into that engine after just a couple thousand miles. The best mileage I ever got with the truck when it was stock power was 17.9 on an ALL-highway tank (driving to Florida). I could have lived with the mileage. But, after nearly 800 miles of highway driving, the CEL popped a p2262. Hell, if driving on the highway for 800 miles doesn't keep the turbo from gumming up, what will? That's what drove me over the edge, and I haven't looked back since.
DZ, I don't think you necessarily need to go overboard to really enjoy the mileage and longevity of your truck. The Edge Juice w/Attitude or PMT is also a set of gauges and I think EVERY truck should have gauges, stock or modified. Then it's just a matter of a DPF delete and EGR delete. You can leave the Edge on the stock tune if you like. Then you still have stock power, but you can take advantage of ALL your stock power for the first time. I say go for it, man!
