6.7 and Mexican diesel.

Mexico claims they'll have ULSD soon which takes forever down there. They only have one grade of diesel to my knowledge:high sulfur. Too bad too as diesel was $2.16/gallon down there last week. My friend"s '07 has run 90% Mex. diesel as he only uses it on Baja trips. Zero problems in 6,000 miles. The 6.7's DPF will clog after a few tanks of real diesel,I'm told. Might want to keep the 5.9 for now.

Been using almost 100% mexican diesel for 4 years with no problems. I say with the 5.9 go for it but be careful with the new motors as Mexico is not ULSD. I live 4 miles from Mexico and this is really convenient for me and my 2000 4X4 quadcab. 160,000+ miles and almost just like new.

Dumb but obvious question

Since Dodge assembles their diesel trucks in Mexico, what is the factory fill of fuel... ULSF? I doubt it...Nobody has yet to address that point!

I'm wanting to take my Toy Hauler down to the Baja 1000 next week, but I'm not sure what to expect with the fuel, so I got online and did a little research. Here's what I've found:

Everyone says go to the Pemex.com website. Unless you speak spanish, which I don't, you won't find good info there.

The goal is to start fully integrating ULSD next year all across Mexico. Supposedly, they have started integrating into some border cities such as Ciudad Juarez, Chihauha, TJ, etc... BUT the regulars that go down there can't confirm. Pemex claims (through blogs that I've read) that they do have ULSD in some border cities, but it's hell trying to figure out which is which. They are calling their ULSD by the name of Pemex Diesel Bajo Azufre.

Here's a pretty good site run by Baja guys. The author seems pretty genuine and there's some good info, although, at times it seems contradictory, but it's a start.

If the factory doesnt fuel the truck, how do they get out of the factory and into the parking lot and up the ramp into the rail car and out of the railcar and into the lot and to the staging lot and to the semi truck and off the truck to the dealer?
ANSWER: They dont push it, they fuel it in Mexico with what ever fuel they have in Mexico! Namely, what they can buy....specifically, LSF!!!until they get the good stuff (ULSF!

I'm no expert, but I think the factory puts in some diesel to get from here to there. Then it is the dealer who fills it up, if necessary. Some get their truck delivered with minimal diesel (probably what's left from the factory) and one has to fill it up the first time themselves. I got mine with a full tank from the dealer in the OC. I would think that down in Mexico building the trucks that they're smart enough to have their big tanks filled with the right ULSD for shipment to the dealers.

Yes, they are smart enought and they only put 3 gallons in, of which 1 gallon primes the system.

How do you know that?

Again, I would think with all the smart people and money at stake that they would be cumulative morons to put 3 gals of the wrong fuel in their tanks! This would be one huge mistake if caught, based on all the issues they've had with the emmissions systems. Their manual says ULSD and they don't follow their own "laws"? That would be a good one for sure and there really are no excuses for it. I would love to know how anyone knows/thinks they don't put the right diesel in their trucks when new...

mega-engr I agree with you. Even though they still sell LSD to the general population in Mexico, we know for a fact that Mexican refineries produce ULSD and it is available. So I'm resonably sure it's no big deal for the Dodge factory to order ULSD to be delivered into the tanks they fill the new trucks from.
