the newer one just has better filtration....the older style is 7micron and the new one is 5micron if i remember correctly.

next time you should change it yourself, all it takes is disconnection the water in fuel sensor, draining the water out, unscrewing it with a half inch wrench, screwing the new one on and pluging in the water in fuel sensor

The other advantage with the new fuel filter is that the element can be replaced using this current housing. The older filter (7 micron rated ) needed to replace element and housing as a unit. Therefore cost were higher.
The cost of the element is $36.95 from Geno's garage part number is FS43258. This is the Fleetguard part No.
I order two elements at a time and keep one in the truck as a spare in case I need to change the filter do to bad fuel.

I don't see any reason why you can't. I've installed the newer fuel filter some time ago but decided to keep the older style filter I already had just in case of an emergency (such as a cracked housing on the new filter). I also carry one spare filter element for the new filter.

I coming up to a filter change, the one I put on, or the dealer installed, I got from geno,s, think it was a mopar model, 1 piece. Do I have to order the fleetguard, filter/shell to replace it (pt # FS43257), then after that the FS 43258, to do just the filter?

6.7 fuel filter

Sabercat , if you have a dealer install a new filter as I have experienced, the new filter is just a new filter housing , looks like the old filter, but the new filter has a removable filter within that you replace and a 5 micron filter instead of 7 micron. I had the dealer do the change as i;m a bleeder, and reaching up where this filter is so cleverly put, would cut me long.deep and frequent . If you can do it you will save $200 (gotcha}Geneo's has the filters. Thank Patrick

has anyone posted any instructions with pictures on replacing this filter? also, i am wondering how i can tell if i have the old type filter or possibly the new filter housing? Looking at my filter, it looks like the picture on the box of the Mopar filter you get from Geno's.
