I am getting 12 around town and 15 on the highway empty. 12 or 13 with a trailer. I also have larger tires. I new that getting into it though. I didn't buy it expecting to get the mileage of a corolla or civic.

Yeah, the Ford I'm driving right now gets about 10mpg unloaded, 12 if I'm very very conservative on the hwy at about 60mph. The 6.7L is much better, but I think all the new ones will suck compared to the 5.9Ls we've all grown to love.

I'm afraid you're right. The EB sounds nice. Pulling power is nice.

But if my numbers are right that will cost me $1100+ more in fuel per year vs my 5.9. Thinking about that another way... I could buy a lot of nice stuff for my truck for $1100 year instead of pouring it in my tank and burning it.

I'm starting to hope that the cost of fuel will motivate a manufacturer to make a fuel efficient but still powerful and clean diesel truck. This pushes me towards getting the most years out of my 5.9 as possible and waiting for something better in the future...

Well, I traded my '07 6.7l for an '06 5.9l. I had to drive 250 miles to make the exchange. On the way there, the '07 said 18.5 mpg running around 75 mph. On the way back, the '06 said 21.6 running the same 75! i consider that a significant bonus!!! No emissions AND better mpg!!!

Fuel Economy

I must be the lucky one because I just turned 1,000 miles on my new 6.7 and I got 18.5 miles highway and towing my 30' 8,000 lb. toy hauler I got 15.5 I kept clicking between 5th and 6th to maintain an RPM of 1700.
also I want to change my own oil, what fits in the oil drain plug to turn it ?

A 3/8 drive ratchet with just an extension on it.
Be careful putting it back in because if you torque too tight putting it back in it will crack. I have the Fumoto drain plug on mine and it's great..

I was at 19mpg and rising at 60-65mph this weekend until I hit some mountains and then it came back down quick. Doing any kind of driving off the highway also brings the mileage down quickly....
