500 Ppm Vs. 15 Ppm

I'm new to the 6.7 and I am having trouble finding Ultra-Low in some parts of deep South Texas. What would I damage (if anything) if I run the old stuff?

Yes you will. The old stuff will clog up the DPF. Stay will the ULSD.

i was told by my dealer that i could run whatever i needed but to try and run the ulsd if possible. they have had to warranty several dpf's because the ulsd is not available at every station.

I still dont believe anyone that says you can not run lsd in the 6.7 I have and have not had one problem from it. It runs better and gets better milage. The thing I dont get is how does it clog the dpf. Back when the 6.7 first came out they had a problem with it not going into regen that is why it was clogging. It had nothing to do with what was run thru it or how you drove it. It was a technical problem in the ecm. The reflashes had since fixed that so it will regenerate more and right. I know it says in the owners manual that you have to run ulsd.

You have to run ULSD. May not like it or have it available, but that's what it is. If you like to be risky then don't read anything in the manual, believe, or follow it. ULSD is cleaner and evidently what these emissions systems need to perform. The computer programs are helping and making everything work better and the way it supposed to, but when the doctor says to do something then you probably need to. Or just quit going to the doctor all together.

So far, I think it has been well documented what running LSD does for the emmisions systems and I doubt any computer program will let one change the fundamentals that the system was built upon. which is using the right fuel ULSD.

Wheres the facts lsd clogged the dpf. As long as it is regenerating proper it will NOT clog

I understand what you're saying... The only facts there seem to be are that the manufacture is saying to only use ULSD in their system. They're not perfect, but I would tend to trust them on that issue. Also, there appears to be more issues than just potentially clogging the DPF... I tend to think that even with a proper regenerating system that it isn't enough to allow putting LSD through it without any issue. Don't have a FORD or CHEVY manual, but I would think that they say to only use ULSD in theirs too. Even the diesel pumps say use ULSD for all 2007 diesel vehicles and recommended to run in previous year vehicles as well. I'm not selling ULSD, just trying to minimize risks for the guy asking the original question...

It will be great to see the facts when someone documents running LSD in their latest reflashed and O2 sensor moduled (recalled) vehicle and showing no issues. You're not recommending to run LSD in these vehicles right?

I know what you are saying, in some places it it not available. I bought one of the first 6.7's out, a cab and chassis and I have run a lot of the LSD. I use the ULSD whenever I can, but I have had no emissions problems that were caused by LSD. The only problem I have had was caused by a throttle control valve, it was a intermittent problem and the dealer where I bought the truck was guessing at what it was and attempted to put a pickup flash on it. All that did was to make it where it wouldn't regenerate at all, needless to say that caused the DPF to plug up. Another dealer found the problem and straightened out the electronics and I have had no problems since and I still run the LSD from time to time if I have to. My truck is a cab and chassis with a different engine setup and different emissions setup than a pickup. Don't know if that makes any difference, but I have not had any problems running LSD and I have quite a few miles now.

I had the same problem and i hot shot. So after constant fillups with lsd, my truck started to act real dawgy and sometimes get 15 seconds power losses. Get yourself a aux tank.

DO NOT PUT LSD IN YOUR TRUCK if you want it to last. After awhile of only ulsd it got better along with my mpgs and power. Although sometimes a feel like there is a little power loss here and there. But what do i know, im totwing 20,000 + pounds all day everyday. Its gonna be a dawg anyways.

But seriuos, stay away lsd and #2

If I'm not mistaken I think the only Diesel at regular gas stations in California is ULSD. Then again I could be wrong. I'm sure there are other states following in those footsteps, but it's just what I'm hearing from other dudes that have diesel trucks.

The 6.7 pickups have an NOx cat (just in front of the DPF). It can get poisoned by the sulfur in lsd (expensive if you're emissions tested and have to replace it). It's what makes the 6.7 pickup 2010 emission rated. The 6.7 CC trucks don't have it and are thus not as sensitive to lsd.

If I had a 6.7 the first thing I would do probably before I even bought it would be to check around my local area and KNOW where all the ULSD is sold. That engine was designed and engineered completely around the ULSD fuel that is why Cummins says in big bold print "ULSD only!" you guys running hotshot I feel for you cause it's a crapshoot what's available out there on the road. They should have just mandated all ULSD fuel at the same time and just eliminated LSD altogether or better yet stop messing with emissions garbage. A stupid volcano eruption can spew more "greenhouse gases" than what man has produced in the entirety of the industrial revolution! Ridiculous is what it is but government exists to control everything that's what they do.

Hi all, i know this forum is for 6.7's and this might be a stupid question, but I was wondering if it mattered which one you use in 07 5.9? Can I still use the 500 or is it strictly ULSD for me? Thanks all, this is my first cummins and so far I love it.
