3500 mile update

Nothing major, just figured I'd share how my truck has treated me for the last 6 weeks. MIL hadn't come on in almost a month, thought I got lucky, as soon as the warm weather hit, it came back. 80% of the MILs have been thermostat rationality codes, the other 20% relating to the turbo.

Have done quite a bit of towing and hauling, bed is taking quite a beating without a bedliner. It's dented up pretty bad. Towing power is unreal, I can lug the engine down to 1200RPM in 6th and it still pulls. G56 is working nicely. Jake brake is great. For those who have never driven a 6.7 I cannot underscore how well they pull.

Best fuel economy hand calculated was 11MPG, once. Worst is a consistent 8-9MPG. Running empty/hauling/towing seems to make no difference, I still have a hard time getting more than 300 miles out of a tank, which is the main reason I am not keeping this truck. Can't afford to put fuel in it.

Lately the brake lights have been staying lit up when I set the parking brake

Sooooo... I am going back to a 5.9 for obvious reasons. That and the 03-05 seats were better on my back, not like that matters but is part of the decision, and I can confidently spend money on a bedliner knowing I'll actually keep the truck.

recap:
highs: towing performance, G56
lows: fuel economy, constant MILs, flimsy bed

Love to tow with this truck, hate it the rest of the time.

From your experience and that of a couple of guys that I have talked to around here the really bad mpg's seem to be manual trans trucks. I am sure that this is not 100% accurate, but the folks that I know that are getting 10-12mpg max are manual trans guys.

You bought one heckuva possessed truck. Hope your replacement ride works out better for you. Your mileage has been so bad too. I'm old school and I remember when a vehicle with a manual trans always provided better mpg than a slush box. But with my 6 speed auto I'm always in the 14 to 15 mpg area (hand calculated, unloaded).

Let us know how it goes with your new ride.

Sorry to hear you got a crappy truck, dude. I haven't had any problems out of mine in 6000 miles, but that certainly isn't intended to downplay your issues. I have followed your story since you bought the truck and there is definately more than meets the eye going on with your pickup. I think it is the definition of "lemon." Hope your new 5.9L treats you better, it is a helluva powerplant.

Mine just hit 3250 and hand calc. is a solid 14.6 average. A low of 13.7 and a high of 15.1, all empty. But I love the truck and can't wait to do some little mod's to make it mine. 315's are ordered to fill the fenders and more to come as the funds allow.

This lemon law is taking forever... I took it in twice for codes, however the local dealer was ordered by Chysler to force me to go to my selling dealer and won't work on it, so I'm taking it there next week.

Minor update, fuel economy seems to be decreasing by the day, $50 a day in fuel, something has to happen quick

Traded in a 2005 2500 4x4 6 stick 3.73 for a 2008 6.7 2500 4wd 6 stick 3.73. The 05 at the time I traded was getting an average 23mpg. So far with the 08 out of the box is getting 17. I don't drive fast, 68 max on hwy, will be patient for the engine to break-in before I have to worry. Good luck with your next truck...

I have a 07 mega cab 4x4 with many,many,many problems.Its in the shop now.
I just sent my forms in today to start the lemon law! I've had many issues and more than 20 days at the dealer. How long has it been for you so far on your lemon buy back?

Just checked mine and got 14.2 around town , hand calc. Also thru a code P-0128 the other day , first in 6 months , took it to Dealer who removed it but said there is a recent TSB out on this code to reprogram the computer but he didn't have it yet. Suspect I'll be back soon. Got 14k miles on now .

sorry to hear that... wish I could say I'm surprised though. I am going on 2 months, however my local dealer putting they won't work on the truck in writing hopefully sealed the deal. the key is to be patient, persistent, and get everything in writing.

I took it back today, they cleared all the codes and said there is no fix for P0128. less than a mile after picking it up, MIL came back on. overhead reads 7.7MPG and is telling me to change my oil, better get right on that
