2008 Charging Issues

2008 3500SRW. A few days ago truck was dead. Has less than year old Interstate batteries and hasn't had any issues. I hooked jumper cables to it from my other truck, waited about 20 minutes and it fired right up. Drove it for about an hour or so and smelled something burning/melting. My passenger battery positive cable got so hot it melted solder out of the connection and melted into top of my battery. Since then periodically the charging light will come on with check gauges and its clearly not charging. Cycle the key a few times and boom it charging again. Is this a computer issue like my 2nd gens had with voltage regulator control via the ECM or is this an alternator issue? I've checked all cables, connections and everything checks out good. I'm new to these 6.7 3rd gen issues. Thank you for the possible help.
