2007 Dodge 2500 vs 2008 F250

Test drove a Ram 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 with 6.7L 47rfe and the F250 SD Crewcab new 6.4L PS.

Exterior - They both looked good no winner here.

Interior - Ford had the better interior and more room in the cab. I loved the Ford interior and wish I could transfer it over to a Dodge or Chevy.

Ride - Ford was much nicer. The Dodge still feels like a truck but not as bad as my 2002 model.

Engine/Transmission - I love the new 6.7L and 68RFE. That combo is great from what I experienced. Hammer down and she flys. The Ford was unimpressive and much noiser than the Cummins. The new Dodge combo is quieter and feels more powerful than the Ford. And another key point, the Dodge comes with a Exhaust brake. Push the button on the center of the dash and you have it! Nice feature.

Price - Dodge hands down winner. I can get the same amount of truck for
$13k less than the Ford. Don't care about the interior that much and I can go aftermarket if I wanted bells and whistles.

Sure, I would like to buy a new truck but they aren't coming down enough off the price to entice me to buy. Spoke with one guy and they quoted me $36400 for SLT Quad 6.7L Auto, don't know all the bells and whistles, Thunderoad pkg?

Anyways I was interested in seeing what deals were available this weekend but I did not see any great can beat deals. Now the 2007 5.9L trucks they could get me out the door @$33000, that is out the door not just the price.

Ill be the first to correct you on the tranny

Its a 68RFE. The 48RE is the 4sp in the 5.9. 68 is the new one.

Glad to hear you like it. a friend of mine just got an 08 ford and i was not impressed with the power.

One thing, to each his own and the new superduty looks beautiful, I just don't think it ties with the Dodge or Sterling in looks, the Chrysler wins hands down IMO. It is a really pretty truck, even the 05's were and didn't need a revamp.
I didn't even drive the 08 powerstroke. I'm thinking the 5.9 in my 07 is the last of an era of diesels that lasted and weren't a PITA to deal with down the road.

Diesels have went from simple slightly under horsepowered mules into technological marvals with a bunch of gadgets that will eventually break leading into my stated above PITA.

Dodge did ok with the cummins because I can see a way to get rid of their system since it seems pretty simple, get rid of the regen and canister and it wouldn't be much different that an ol'5.9, but I wouldn't touch a ford powerstroke after 2003, they really put some foofy doodads on them I don't trust. If their new powerstroke fares well I might take a gander at their F450 for my next truck... I'm realizing a month out of buying my new truck in sig that I should have probably got a DRW 1 ton... Air bags should fix most of that though.

Sorry I got off topic.

FYI I fixed my previous post concerning the incorrect transmission identification. StrokeThisCTD pointed it out.

Not trying to be mean but the dealer was feeding all the info to Chrysler. It sounds like someone has an attitude at that particular dealership. I have a dealership like that in my area. I dare not darken their door. I would pay for my truck to be towed to the house and go to my local dealership at all cost if it ever happens. I don't know why some of these dealerships (not all) want to play god. The same thing could of happen to you at a Ford or Chevy dealer. Very sorry to hear about your troubles. I can't blame you for the way you feel. It's just wrong and the dealerships fault.

If the F250 looks as F'ing Ugly as the F450 I saw on TV then there is no way I would want to be caught in one even if I was dead.

Very true, This is totally the dealerships fault. They should have fixed or helped me get my truck replaced to begin with. It will be 3 weeks Monday with no truck.

Ya after reading all of the 6.7L "quirks" I'm not wanting to be a tester of the new engine/tranny combo.

I"m a die hard Dodge man, but, Fords got em in looks interior and exterior. I''m not impressed with Fords track record on new engines, we will just have to wait and see who did their homework

I'm with DBLR, the 08 Duties look like and I was a fan of the previous gen's styling.

But all you have to do is drive them and it becomes clear which is the better truck. Ford is advertising the hell out of their fancy 6.4L, then you go drive one and it falls flat. And for the insane amount of money they are asking I expect the interior to be nice.

Give it time for the companies to get around the DPF's and the 6.7L will be king.

I've always liked the looks and interiors of Fords too this new one though is ehhh... but they sure do put nice aluminum wheels on the 08 F450's. They look just like big truck Alcoa wheels. Dodge should do that with the CC3500, 4500, 5500 models but how much you want to bet they only offer the same old plain looking steel wheels on the 08s..

Check out the factory rear diff cover on an 08 superduty:
