2007 or 2009 ?

There are two trucks for sale, almost exactly the same in terms of options, but one is a 2007 and (obviously) the other a 2009. almost the same price, '09 has half the miles, '07 has(maybe) a leveler on the front to fit a set of 33 or 35 inch tires. Question is : does an '09 have the "bugs" worked out enough as far as the emission equipment is concerned ? I drive mostly highway, so I'm thinking the "regen" and DPF shouldn't be a problem. A Smarty would take care of the EGR or can I just unplug it ? I live near Phoenix, so emissions is a threat.

I would go with the 09. They had most of the Bluetec Blues worked out by then. If you are having to deal with emmisions testing, Id leave it completely stock.

I'd say go for the 09. Have 2 friends with an 08 and an 09 and neither of them has had any emissions trouble and they don't work the trucks hard, no towing.
Only thing I'd check on, is I read on here that trucks mfg after 3-09 have locked ECMs, can't add a tune or delete, but verify that.

I think this was addressed/fixed and it is only the 2010 trucks still waiting on the Smarty. H&S tuner works for 2010.

I'd get the '09 and leave the engine alone. Any tuner used on a 6.7 can be detected as advertised by the makers. I've read where they have plenty of go power. Just change the oil when indicated due to fuel dilution and have it checked out by Blackstone or similiar lab.

Does the 07 have a 5.9? If so, I'd go with the 07, JMO

Smarty works all the way thru 09. If you will be working it hard, it should be fine stock...

Oh and Danderson, there is no such thing as enough power....

Both trucks have the 6.7, I won't be working the truck very hard. Daily driver, occaisionally towing and hauling stuff for friends. A Smarty would be a"gotta get" and I run AMSoil but would like to keep the gook out of the intake and oil so I would not have a problem "tweaking" things as far as emisson things go.
I'm leaning towards the '09 and have a call to the dealer to see if it is still available.
Thanks !

It is known to happen with the stock bluetec equipment in place that the 4th injection even can cause cylinder wash and growing oil.

That was the main reason I deleted mine... It should be working if and when I need it to when the time comes. In the meantime though, I'm enjoying the benefits

Based on what you said, don't buy either one of them. If you just HAVE TO HAVE a diesel, get an 06 or earlier that has the 5.9. Until the folks that build these things can come up with a better design than blowing exhaust through the turbo and putting a filter that is gonna stop up, on the exhaust, these things are just going to be trouble just waiting to happen. They sure screwed up a good truck.

By the way, the BlueTec Blues have not been worked out. The J35 flash did not accomplish anything except reduce my fuel mileage.

Your view on the 6.7 is skewed, and you may have been misinformed. The Late 08 and most 09 trucks have very little emission issues. The '10s even fewer. The early models had a few growing pains, but the bluetec system has become functional.

Now that being said, I still dont like it, I feel there is no need for it, but it is what it is.

Just in case you are not aware, the 5.9's blow their exhaust through the turbo also.

+1 with Blake.

My '08 hasn't had a problem yet, and it's a "04-08" build from what I've seen. She pulls like a dream with the G56 and no matter what has held right at 15 to 15.5 MPG and with a load drops to around 11 or 12 MPG. No deletes yet, but I am saving up my pennies just in case I need to do them.
