2006 ram 3500 5.9L Turbo Diesel engine turns 2 revolutions after key is switched off
Hey everyone! I am hopeing that someone out there has heard of this problem before because noon else has. I have a 2006 ram 3500 5.9L Turbo Diesel engine and it turns 2 revolutions after key is switched off. It is NOT the chirping issue that some have. It literally runs a couple seconds AFTER the key is out of the truck and it has been turned to the off position. Before anyone asks, it doesnt matter if I towed anything, let in run a while after driving to cool off, or whatever it does it EVERY single time no matter what. I have had it in the dealership a couple of times and they flashed the computer, reset the computer, changes solenoids, checked relays and fuses and they say that nothing is wrong. This is the 6 speed version. Please let me know anything that will be helpful. Thank you!

It's part of the Cummins character.

chirping may not be the right way to decribe it, but every cummins i have ever driven when you shut her down, it shakes the whole truck, and on some the belts make a chirp type sound, maybe a squeak., but i think the guy is saying his actually runs for several seconds before actually shutting down
My truck does the "wet dog shake" too. The first couple of times I shut it down, I thought there was something wrong, but after a while, I got used to it. I talked to a couple of Cummins owners before I found this site, and they said theirs do it too. Once I found this site, I learned that it's normal due to the high compression these engines have.
You'll get used to it, just give it time.

If you have chipped the motor... some won't shut down till the turbo is cool enough... Edge has that -so you don't cook the turbo...you can shut it off , take the key and walk away and it will run till the turbo is cool enough
