Are the 08's ready?

Been lurking here for a little while trying to get a finger on the pulse of the new 6.7. I'm looking to carry a truck camper and right now it's between a Ram or GMC Sierra. This won't be my daily driver. I have to tell you, the comments here have me pretty gun shy on the new Cummins. The DPF equipped Duramax isn't trouble free but it sure looks like the 6.7 is going through a lot of teething pains. But, the 6.7 has now been shipping for a year and a half and Chrysler has had some time to work on these problems. It "seems" to be getting better but as is always the case in these forums, you don't get many posts from people saying their truck ran fine today.

So, how about it? Do you think Chrysler has ironed out most of the 6.7 issues? How many 08 owners are out there with no problems?

Thanks,
Dan

No problem here except that the mileage isn't great. What kind of mileage are the new DMaxs getting?

My 07 is doing fine.

Keep in mind that most people will only make an effort to post if they are having a problem. You won't hear a lot of "good news" stories.

Can't speak from experience but monitoring the DMax forums for a while and the DPF equipped trucks seem to average 10-13 towing (depending on load and speed), 15-17 empty. However, there are occasional posts from users with higher mileage (10k+) who's empty mileage jumps to 19-21 hwy after a long hard pull. Sounds like what I'm seeing here. The trucks that get worked work best. Since most of my miles will be with the camper on the back, I have hopes I'll be in the latter group.

Appreciate the input so far. Thanks! I'm feeling a little more optimistic about the 08 3500 QC SB that arrived at a somewhat local dealer recently.

No problems with mine.

Mileage is good considering the HP and available torque. It's only 1 mpg worse than my 06' 5.9 with less gut.

For a working truck, I wouldn't buy anything else but a Cummins (especially with the RE 68 tranny).

I'm a die-hard Cummins fan, but I would give a serious look at the Dmax

we've got a bunch of DPF equipped Dmax crane trucks in our fleet, and they've been really good trucks. Granted, they are tipping the scales at 14,000lbs or so, so they've got a good load on them all the time.

my buddies who have 6.7's are getting horrible mileage and are going in for gummed up turbos, etc. etc.

Have had 0 drivetrain problems (I'm schedlued for driver seat replacement next week) @ 6200 miles. Milage empty is around 15 right now. Can get 17 @ 63mph on the highway. Seems to be the magic speed. Tows like a train!! Also take a look at the drivetrain components. They have been upgraded quiet a bit. Bigger tie rod ends, older 2gen shock absober style, new improived track bar. Lots of other stuff as well.

Yes i can say absolutley no problems what so ever. I would tell you if i did believe me.
Bought it in Dec. 07 have 22,000 km or roughly 13,000 + miles on her so far, not a lot by no means. Going to be hooking up the camper soon, can't wait to see what it compares to my 06 was like. This has been my favorite truck so far compared to the last 3 i owned. 08, 06 & 03.
